Notice that the picture in reply #19 is nothing more than a glorified parking garage.

I was going to mention this one. Nice pic! My co-author partner (for the book we're writing) and I use the parking garage in this building frequently on trips into Wheeling. The people of this town are just fabulous.
Too bad the building's named for a blithering old fool.

If you will take the time to peruse the
Citizens Against Government Waste $22.5 Billion in Pork Report for 2003 , you will find the following entries for the old Kluxer, Robert Byrd.
$7,115,000 for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$75,872,000 for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$13,589,000 added by the Senate for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$34,900,000 added in conference for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$20,915,000 added by the Senate for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$51,950,000 added by the Senate for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
$39,913,000 for projects in the state of then-Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.)
The total in pork extracted from the paychecks of working class Americans, by this old geezer amounts to $244,244,000. (just during the current session of Congress)

While it's really not a memorial...yet, someone calling into Hannity's radio show was wondering how much tax payer's money was used to renovate Byrd's Capitol Hill office. Doesn't he have a replica of the Oval Office or something like that?

And I thought the "Javits Center" was overkill.
