The actual truth is the governor had no business interfearing with a PRIVATE party, no matter what you or O'Reilly think. It is getting old and it is way past time to stop this madness. Perhaps if it was a true private party I would agree with you. However, when anyone at the school who isnt black has a general invitation, I fail to see how this is a private event. It is a public event open to all good ole boys and their dates.
And again I didnt ask the governor to interfere with the all white prom, just speak out against it to shame the organizers and others like them.

I hope that the Condi Rices of the world eventually overwhelm the divisive hacks like Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lees. Just as long as they dont get too uppity and want to attend your all white prom.

The Governor should make generic comments on racial unity, but to publicly denounce several dozen 18 year olds is not his place. Perhaps if the Governor had made those generic comments he wouldnt be in this hot water and we wouldnt be talking about this. There are always going to be stupid people doing stupid things. That the Governor of the state and other public officials (Principal and School Board) who didnt speak out against it is what has made this a story.

I haven't had time to read all the replies, nor did I see that particular episode of O'Reilly, so I will not expound, but will relate my past personal experience.
There was a great deal of controversy as to the style of the music and the theme of the prom. The students then agreed to have two seperate proms, one that suited the tastes of most of the white kids, and one that suited the tastes of most of the black kids. Any student could attend either, or both.
There was no exclusion. No one's 'rights were violated', no one was 'offended'. All the kids had fun. There was no racial tension. And best of all, no one was to suffer the indignity of a 'hip-hop hoedown' theme that might have resulted had the PC crowd gotten wind of it and insisted on a single prom designed to celebrate our diversity. Then again, it was 1975!
This is my first reply, after months of lurking. Please be gentle!

I think 6 months on the Chain Gang would begin to learn those teenagers, don't you? I think having the TV cameras outside their prom to shame them was enough.

I certainly hope that the fact O'R is a jackass does not come as news to you.

"Question: if the Governor was not a Republican, would you still be so upset at O'Reilly? Bill said what he said now if the Gov. has any balls he will come on himself and make a statement of his view, instead of sending a rep to talk for him. Bill is tough on everyone even the Pope and Bill is a Catholic, that is why I like him." Fish Hawk: Could not agree with you more. After all, FOX News is not the Republican News Network (as some believe or wish).
If 90% of the population of Georgia is in the 21st Century, but a few select schools and the Governor is not, it's time to FORCE these schools and the Governor into the 21st Century (just as the Middle East needs a BOOST into the 21st Century -- for other reasons).

I think the people who beat up the South for sport are obnoxious. New York has had its share of racial strife. Why do you alternately see this as either a dumping on Republican Governor Perdue or beating up on the South? I live in a border state and I certainly dont feel that most whites in the South agree that an all white prom is appropriate. I believe most of them would see it as an anachronism. Thats why some of us are shaking our heads wondering why the leaders in GA would take a pass on this. You seem to have a much lower opinion of your fellow Southernors than I do.

I went to Old Westbury for one year. It's a good school, or was. I think it's closed now. You just had to be able to take watching spoiled rich kids waste their parents money. I graduated Sacred Heart Academy 1992, my sister went to Uniondale HS her last year 1998.

Well, I see it that way because it is. I also see it as morally no different than white flight, suburban schools with few minorities (by design) and sending your kid to lily white private schools. Pray tell, how many white non-Southern parents will ever have their kids junior prom held at a historically black college?
I think the kids may be racist, but we have not heard from them. They may also be petty-- thinking that the planning of the second annual integrated junior prom didn't sufficiently take into account their wishes. Perhaps, they feel uncomfortable having it held on the campus of a historically black college, I don't know why they would, but I think its a possibility.
If the kids are racists and had malice in their hearts, I reject that and I despise it. But I also despise the hypocrisy of the "outraged" who all too often are against school vouchers, send their kids to private schools, practice the bigotry of low expectations, and resist higher educational standards at every turn. They are informed by the belief that black kids can't learn and it is very racist and destructive, I abhor that.
I do have faith in the South-- which has come a hell of a lot farther in the last 40 years than the Northeast and the West Coast. Why is it that a black LA jury believed that the cops framed OJ? They had to have had some bad experiences with white cops. The acquittal of the cops in the Rodney King case was made by an all-white jury in Simi Valley, not Selma. The sentence of community service for the Korean woman who killed a young black petty theif in her convenience store was given by a California, not South Carolina jury.
Did white Southern cops sodomize a black man with a plunger?
No it was NYC cops.
All of those incidents have inflamed many African Americans and none of them occurred in the South.
The James Byrd dragging death in Texas was met with universal contempt in Jasper and the jury sent those cold-blooded killers to death or life in prison. And of course it was still used by the Democrats and their
client group the NAACP to unjustly hammer George Dubya.
My point is that I want a full discussion on race. It will not do to act like the Southeastern corner of the country is the only place that has problems with race. It's dishonest! I think people serious about race relations recognize that it is a national problem, not a regional one. To pound the South and a Southern Governor (who incidentally had nothing to do with it) makes people like O'Reilly (who throws the term "wetback" around like he gets paid for it) a chance to win brownie points, but it doesn't advance the cause of racial unity.
Kind of like Clinton saying he was a feminist while he treated women like dirt.
If that kind of thing works for you, enjoy!
To: Dave S
I disagree, O'Reilly would not have accepted that. Perdue's representative gave O'Reilly that last night and Bill O's response was a throbbing forehead vein and a "you don't deserve to breathe, lady" tirade.
He wants Perdue to go on his show. This is about Perdue not kissing his ring. He wants Perdue to say, "I'm sending those white 17 year old pukes to re-education camps, they deserve a fate worse than Saddam Hussein."
And then maybe O'Reilly's jihad against Perdue (an innocent bystander) will stop!
To: Dave S
You're insane and this post is ridiculous. For you to say that reveals what a profound imbecile you are. You know not a thing about me and you are in Roy Cohn mode-- really, get a grip on your rhetoric.
To: Dave S
I see it (a private all-white prom organized by 16 and 17 yr olds) as not a pleasant thing, I also see it as less serious than a Klan march on MLK day. My parents have done a great job. Well, I guess even Ronald Reagan was forced to testify in front of one of those Communist chasing Congressional commitees. Sometimes the "witch-hunters" ( always with more than average private sin) hurl accusations at the innocent.
Nothing new.
That's why Perdue is getting smeared to assuage O'Reilly's sins. That's why I am getting beat up by the likes of you. What, pray tell, are you guilty of?
To: faithincowboys
O'Reilly has lost it.
He keeps pretending that all questions to him are attempting to justify "bad behavior" by blacks (i.e. Black-only proms in the recent past).
He refuses to face the real question: where has his outrage been?
Pick on whitey? He will just roll over?
I'm beginning to approach the camp that believes O'reilly is just a pompous ass!

Yeah, perhaps not to the degree, but I would be thinking, "What in heavens name did that Governor have to do with that Prom?"
And the only answer is: not a damn thing!
To: Publius6961
Anybody who doesn't have a problem with the way O'Reilly is handling this issue is an idiot. It is plainly unfair. He is adding more dark than light. More rage than reconciliation, and his net is so wide that next he will demand George Dubya denounce it. I think he is an absurd, arrogant man.
To: tuna_battle_slight_return
Why is the Governor implicated by this? I think in the zeal to see someone pay for this, some people need a chalk outline on the floor. Perdue's political death will fulfill that wish. I think this has become insane!
So now when your a Governor and something happens in your state, you are a co-defendant? I'm really not getting this.
To: tuna_battle_slight_return
So you have decided that Perdue is a racist caveman who deserves to get crucified, but are not ready to take the leap that Fox News leans to the right? Bizarre.
There is certainly more evidence to link FOX to the GOP, than Perdue to the all-white prom.

I am sick of Bill O!
He thinks he is the savior of the world. He is not a Conserv and I for one wish he was history. His attitude tends to be a higher and mighty and his views are not that of the GOP so he can just shut up.

So true. He was absolutely disgracefull. To suggest that her daughters- held captive by the Saudi regime and their despotic father- don't want freedom is sick. Thanks for reminding me of that. A big Irish reporter from the Wall Street Journal I think, decimated O'Reilly about it on The Factor. Great to see him get his, for once!
