Only 20 years? High-caliber rifles have been around for over 200 years if you count the old muzzleloaders. I've got an 1850's model rifle that shoots .577 conical bullets and .58 round balls. I guess the technology has changed a bit, but mine's sighted up to 1200 yards and can hit at distances comparable if not better than many of the modern guns.
