The Iraq section was a joke, just crude pots, some knifes/swords,

Think about it, the Iraqui artifacts were very likely much, much older than most of the other things.

My art teacher was practically in tears talking about this tonight. He was showing us slides recently and one of the slides was a Sumerian piece which he said he saw laying broken upon the floor.

He was angry about the ruined art. Because, "well, people die and art is what we leave behind us."

Hi,I've been around a pretty long time and often read your posts. Though they are well written,I seldom agree;however,on this issue you are so very right. It disturbs me to think people can be so cavalier about destroying historical documents and items.

It doesn't matter if Iraq or the media are lying about the contents of the museum or the destruction of same, the failure of spokespersons to acknowledge the value and the loss to civilization,if it were true,is indicative of a mentality that is seriously flawed. It makes one afraid to consider the reason that the obliteration of documents and artifacts can be so airily dismissed. Unless,of course, one wanted to destroy the memories and proofs of what once was.So much easier to invent a new history and create a new world.

Compared to the Asian cultures these people were in the stone age.

Um, Iraq was home to the first civilization on Earth, in case you hadn't heard. Their art is not exactly my cup of tea either, but it is very significant and important.

My deepest opologies for my lack of proper formating.

No problem at all. Thanks to George W. Bush, even the people of Iraq can today make the occasional formatting blunder without fear of reprisal. Carry on.

How do we KNOW it wasnt a museum full of COPIES?

The place has been shut up to the public for a decade plenty of time to fake all the important bits.

Then Saddams henchmen "break-in" to remove the evidence that he squirreled away all the real artifacts.

The whole story is based on what this one bootlicker of the Saddam regime is telling the media. We dont really know do we?

But still LETS criticize our soldiers and leaders just out of principle, right?

Liberal scholary folks were counting on Gubmint grants to study that stuff too, how sad!

Um, Iraq is reputed to be home to the first civilization on Earth, in case you hadn't heard.

I'll admit I don't know art, but what I've seen in museums has not impressed me. Sorry.

I don't think we've heard the whole story about the museum. It seems very out of character compared to the rest of the looters who only desire chairs and a window A/C unit.

Most museums have staffs, curators, docents and security guards. Where were they? The more the lefties use the museum incident to hammer the Coalition forces, the more suspicious I become.

Read my last post carefully and I think you will discern that I have no intention of taking up a career in Art, Art History or Ancient Civilizations.

Pardon me for not taking the lefty diatribes at face value.

I have read each of your posts carefully. When you post an opinion like "The Iraq section was a joke, just crude pots, some knifes/swords, etc. " you have to be prepared to (a) back up your assertion, or (b) admit gracefully that you have no idea what you are talking about. After an initial semantical quibble on whether Mesopotamia was indeed the first civilization, it looks like you chose (b). Good choice.

If you took the time to read my posts, you would have seen that I agree that the looting stories are the work of liberal spin artists run amok. I just don't like to see ignorant trashing of humanity's cultural heritage on any front.

I thought I had taken option B a few posts back.

Find someone else to lecture to.

Maybe if you weren't so defensive people wouldn't need to explain to you why you are wrong. Just an observation, not an intended insult.

Like I'm sure that, in the last 5,000 years, these artifacts haven't changed hands before.
