I was there for a bit (six months, I took a semester off at Berkeley), and I was literally almost physically attacked by "friends of friends" for things I had been able to freely say at Berkeley. It was VERY eye-opening. I think it began to dawn on me that these folks viewed themselves as truly being in Ivory Towers, and somehow Berkeley was too "common" for them.

Is it just me, or does this guy they're interviewing on Fox have a crazier look in his eyes than...even Wesley Clark does?

Searle was amazing. Literally the only guy I ever heard talk, in my life, who at points I simply COULDN'T UNDERSTAND because, even though he was speaking slowly and coherently, he was just TOO smart for me. Right over my head. That had never happened to me before (like when you read a page of a book and realize you haven't read it all, y'know?). I was stunned. Genius was in front of me.

I tried to get a good screen cap of her for someone one night last week. I hit the "capture" button about once a second the whole time she was on the air.

When I went through them, I couldn't find a single one where her eyes were open and her mouth was closed at the same time! Going through them all, quickly, it looks like she's intentionally bouncing her head back and forth...

She's a very pretty lady, though, and obviously very smart -- she crams an unbelievable amount of varied fact into a report.

My screen shots are at Jennifer, if you want them...

(it was the "philosophy of language", the whole thing, that I had, and still have, problems wrestling with...so incredibly nuanced, like the quantum physics of philosophy)

Jeez.

I notice those eyes every time he appears. Truely odd. Looks like somebody just goosed him.

He's the one philosopher who is taking on the neuroscientists, kicking a$$ and taking names. Since those scientists (edelman etc.) think they are the smartest people in the history of the world they don't like him one bit.

"Some people are asking whether these cards are available for purchase. To the best of our knowledge, they are not, nor do we have information about the manufacturer. The cards are being distributed to our troops to help them identify persons who have terrorized the people of Iraq for many years. That is our first priority."

Doubted they would sell them right outta there...that's a little too bloodthirsty, I guess, on second thought.

What's happening on the CBS Bag cam? Everyone in the city is up and about. Is there a big soccer game underway in the area?

Don't know if you've ever seen him talk in public, but his manner of speaking reminded me very much of whoever played the original (pre-Fred Thompson) head of the DA's office in "Law & Order", oddly enough. It was -- no other word for it -- charming.

Looks like we shared a similar experience, although I didn't attend Berkley. Debating liberals and leftists (and occasionally rightests who are wrongests;) in college is much more preferable to what I face now...all around me... all the time... the music biz. Now I'm REALLY a sore thumb. ///sigh///

take me back to college! ;)

I might resemble that remark :-).

Wait, help me out, I'm suddenly having a memory blankout -- Searle is the protege of [blank], who was a student of Wittgenstein, right? Or do I have the whole thing screwed up?
