Actually, the experience in France made me remember something.

Remember in the 80's how the left denigrated American tourists abroad as "ugly Americans"? They sniffed and looked down their noses at tourists who wouldn't learn the language, acted like tourists, etc.

Well, in the 90's it occured to me, these same libbers are the ones who fiercely oppose requiring English instruction for immigrants to the U.S.

So, I must conclude, it's just a hate-America thing.

I just watched my tape of Fox Sunday, and it turns out Kristol was quoting P. J. when he said "looting is just the first stage of shopping."

Mornin' kitten!
Great waking up to this glorious news, huh! Just imagine the burden of worry that has been lifted from the hearts of their loved ones!!!
I stayed away from coverage yesterday, frustrated that it was (too) focused on the looting.
Today is starting off just fine, Thanks be to God!

I've heard he was there with Hitchens and a couple of other guys, not embedded but driving around. This was the first mention I've heard. Glad he's doing okay.

The first use of "wanker" that I remember on these threads was from MadIvan who called the New Zealanders wankers as I remember,,he also explicated "poufters" for me. where has he been, he is our staunch Brit freeper.

I would note that the referenced daily has long ago dropped its local "post.com" adertising which used to appear on all of the billboards and backsides of buses. They accidently stepped into the invited word reversal and I don't think have been able to live it down.

From what I've seen of Iraq, it certainly looks like a breathtakingly beautiful place. The tragedy of Iraq is that when it holds so much beauty and history and could have been a center of tourism, culture and prosperity, the Hussein regime turned it into a land of fear, death and destruction.

I have thought that France would be a good place to vacation, except they have French attitudes there. I'll go to Ireland instead.

there is a post out on the main menu, but it belongs here:

Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld apologized to the celebrity community for the outcome of the war yesterday at his daily press briefing.

"In spite of the joy we feel at what happened in Baghdad this week, it is tinged with sadness as we know that we have embarrassed and disappointed the many members of the celebrity community who wanted us to fail."

Rumsfeld went on to say that "it is always difficult" to go against celebrity foreign policy analysts and added that he hoped "Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Michael Moore, Edward Norton and the Dixie Chicks will not feel too red-faced and will allow the healing to begin. Listen, I've made mistakes in judgment too in my life, and you just have to move forward."

General Tommy Franks, reached for comment on the road to Kirkuk, said that he also "immediately thought about the celebrities" when he saw his men being mobbed and hugged by jubilant Iraqis after the fall of Baghdad. "It's always hard to send men into battle, believe me. But all the more so when they succeed and you know that Barbra Streisand is watching."
