I can't help but wonder about all these men in groups of 2 or more that are walking about the circle today. I wonder if they are the ones that have given up fighting and are going home.

Shep Smith just decided to lecture his viewers the constitution and freedom of the press, and how the poor slobs at the Palestine hotel are being gagged (in effect) by Iraqi minders. The Constitution argument doesn't hold up either, since none of the dead or injured are Americans (AFAIK). Nobody from Reuters is over there covering the war in order to uphold American ideological ideals.

Couldn't agree with you more. Shep got this one wrong. There is no comparison.Any "journalist" who agreed to stay in Baghdad as a "guest" of the Iraqi government basically agreed to become a propaganda tool, since they can't say or show anything that their minders don't want them too.I'm trying my best not to sound like a broken record here, but I think that some people weren't listening closely to what Shep said. Looking at your statement, you just stated almost word for word what Shep said in his comment. He pointed out very clearly that every single journalist had an Iraqi official watching every single word they said. He said they were scared to death.
And repeating again, Shep was responding to emails saying that the reporters deserved to die. Shep had that right.

If he is involved on the wrong side, boy, did he screw up.I am not a big Putin fan, even before his position on Iraq. I don't think, if he is involved, it would be in any way but beneath the table. He will keep it an arms length.
Your comments about us folding are exactly right. Saddam believed he wasn't taken out in the first Gulf War because of our unwillingness to die or kill. Clinton spent 8 years confirming this image. Saddam definitely thinks (thought) we will run if the images get ugly, and I don't think, regardless of Saddam's status, that opinion has faded for some yet.

Else is on FNC saying that the tank commander might have thought a camera had shot at him and that is why he returned fire?

I at least respect the "embeds" because before this war, they were required to go through boot camp They've brought us some of the finest reporting I've ever seen. Rick L.'s last few reports were great; he took us there.
I respect the independents, too, until they start trashing the good guys without facts or trashing the facts to make their points. It's a rough business, and those in the middle of this war are giving us more information than anyone has ever had from a war zone before!

Well put! Another poster put it well, also. They keep harping on this 24-7 and telling us over and over who was killed, about his family, blah blah blah.....but when was the last time they told us the name of the last marine killed over and over and told us how brave he was to be there. By them reporting the "hotel" story over and over, it makes the marine death seem trivial. Move on, already!

We can only hope so. The sooner they capitulate, the better.
