Do you remember reading on these threads reports from the field from embedded journalists that Al Qaeda camps had been taken out? (I do remember but can't find them now).

I don't. I do recall reading yesterday that British forces asserted Al Qaeda fighting the coalition in the south, and on that thread I think someone mentioned the story you remember---but it was news to me.

I guess also, to clarify, what I thought I read, were reports from embedded journalists who had seen the sites after their destruction and they seemed convinced AQ was there.

Now, of course, they were dead AQ. One report was an alphabet network and one was Australian, as I recall.
