He wants to cut the supply line at Nasriyah. It's a good plan. It's as good a plan as he has. He may be overextending, though. Not sure if this is an act of desperation or of overconfidence.
Our air power can bring a halt to this advance. Iraqi forces' only advantage are its dug-in positions in urban areas. They are abandoning this advantage by counterattacking.

The least we can do is hurry to greet them. Maybe an advance party of AH-64s and A-10s could say "Howdy" before the "welcoming committee" gets a chance at them. I'm told those 105s and 120 howitzers have a right friendly long-distance handshake, and the multiple rocket launchers provide a festive air to the proceedings. Of course, their creaky T-55s and T-80s can say hello to our M1A2s, and if any of them make it to our troops, they'll enjoy the latest in battlefield hospitality, as demonstrated so expertly by the United States Marine Corps.

Anyone have a take on why the Brits can't enter Basra and defeat the thugs who are supressing the uprising? Not enough of them? Lack of firepower or air support? House-to-house fighting is a guarantee of casualties on our side. Letting the Iraqis win their freedom with their own hands will be better over the long term

Yes, the odds are certainly against them-I would never suggest otherwise.

I'd like to know whcih comes off better in this war -- the Apaches or A-10's. I'd guess the A-10's.

Bastards. If this is true, I don't have much hope for the POW's from that company, they're now witnesses to war crimes.
I propose the new battle cry for Iraqi Freedom be 'Remember the 507th!'

I had no doubt of that.

Let them come. I think the reporter is helping US by making the RG think they actually have a chance.
I see this as more of a wounded duck routine...
I would assume that Rummie & friends know what they are doing, and certainly the US Marines know what they are doing.

Audacity.
Remember, raghead doctrine is, "kill a lot of Americans and they will run, especially if you desecrate the bodies".
This doctrine is not without some empirical foundation.
There is (by some miracle) a new sheriff in town-but Katie Couric and Oprah are still on the air.
Tough days ahead-pray for our boys.

Karbala Gap? Fight a battle, looks like an Allied victory, then execute your nuclear mine trap scenario as the Third Infantry Division marches into the Gap? That's a horrible scenario, but I think it's plausible (for whatever the heck I know).

"There will be no air cover this time." Why? Did the Iraqi Air force all of a sudden make a stunning comeback?
Look, I understand being concerned. I'm very concerned myself. But please take this to heart, the people in charge of running this show are the very best in the world at what they do.
And the way things are going so far, I'd say they are doing a great job.

Well hell, if intel says there are 1000 RGs headed south, then why and then hell don't we bomb them before they get there? They may be parading a couple thousand women and children in front of them, who knows?

Anyone have a take on why the Brits can't enter Basra and defeat the thugs who are supressing the uprising? Not enough of them? Lack of firepower or air support? My guess is that any action at this point would come at a huge cost in civilian lives. If the Brits go into the city and take on the Baathists in a fire fight, it's a pretty good bet that the Baathists will make sure hundreds of civilians get caught in the line of fire.
When or if it becomes a certainty that MORE civilians are being killed as a result of Brit inaction, then I think the Brits will move in. At this point, it's somewhat of a stalemate and I think the Brits are waiting to see if the folks inside can take care of the matter themselves--with the help of our munitions, no doubt.

Air cover will be A-10's and B-52's for sure. Then probably B-1's and our ground attack fighters too.
This is just a big mistake by Iraq. There all dead.
