The Sun's editorial take:

Back, Jacques

THAT slippery snake Jacques Chirac warns the war will have “serious long-term consequences.”

Too right. Serious for him.

The French government has been exposed as cynical and mercenary.

When Chirac says the UN must be in charge of rebuilding Iraq after the war, what he really means is this:

He’ll try every trick in the book to make sure France gets a big share of the contracts.

He’s off his chump.

France has stuck a knife into Tony Blair and George Bush and given it several nasty twists.

Chirac has shown he hates America and despises Britain. There can be no going back now.

As I say, sometimes one must love the Sun. They're a merry lot of pranksters. ;)

Regards, Ivan

" She said: “It’s not Chirac who threatens world peace. It is Bush. We are proud of our president.”

That statement says it all. We need to raise billions to fill the Chunnel and build a wall around France and France Jr. (Belgium). Can we start a FReepathon?

I've said that this is the key difference between the French and the Iraqis: I think I am right in saying that most of us here, and myself included, have nothing but sympathy for Joe Average in Baghdad. Here's a fellow who didn't vote for Saddam Hussein, can't get rid of Saddam Hussein, is terrorised and beaten by Saddam Hussein. He's done nothing to warrant our disgust and hatred, on the contrary, he deserves our sympathy and we will gladly liberate him. His problem is his leader is rotten, is all.

The French are ostensibly a democracy. So that not only means their leader is disgusting, the support they show for him means the electorate that put him there is vile and disgusting too. So in truth, the French are more despicable than the Iraqis.

Regards, Ivan

I have to say..only the SUN would be so cheeky, as to do something like that.

I hate the French, but I can understand the reaction from the Parisian populice, whether they like Chirac or not!

I mean, could you imagine the SUN littering Dublin with free anti-Irish editorials?

Wouldn't happen. (Of course, the Sun has an Irish edition too..and you'll bet in THAT there is no mention of their anti-French campaign).

OH! Don't get me wrong. I'm ALL for stiffing the French at every opportunity.

I'm just wondering, right at this very minute, if it's more of a 'selling papers', as opposed to 'supporting troops', initiative.

Sorry Ivan.

Actually, the Sun leveled a great and undeserved insult to Parisian whores.

I don't think it's necessary from that angle, love. They're already the best selling tabloid in the UK.

Part of it has to be motivated by their sense of humour, which in this case I appreciate. :)

Amen Ivan. The frogs and Belgians are not only more despicable than the Iraqi dictatorship, they smell worse also. The frogs hate the thought of a democracy becoming successful in the Middle East and they get the crumbs for the rebuilding. Right now that project could help the English and U.S. economy for the next 3 years as a lot of us might take construction and consulting work over there, not to mention the zillions of other jobs.

If this Iraq skirmish ends quckly maybe we can try some of that "Shock and Awe" stuff on France. I'm sure we could get in the Guiness Book of World Records for forcing the quickest surrender in history.

If Chirac keeps badmouthing the UK, he will continue to split the EU. France is awfully lonely with just itself, Belgium and Germany.

Your logic is inescapable. And a great deal of fun to repeat.
