From Ma-firearms@world.std.com:
"...Well, here we've finally got the proof for all those sensible skeet shooters and bird hunters who want to distance themselves from all us gun nuts, safe and smug in their delusions that the unilateral victim disarmament crowd would never want to take away their guns. Mayor Daley's gang has introduced a bill in the Illinois legislature that would outlaw any and all firearm .50 caliber or larger. That let's them keep their .410 shotguns, but all the 10-gauge, 12-gauge, 16-gauge, 20-gauge and even 28-gauge guns would have to be turned into the police for destruction. Welcome to the Gulag, guys..."

i think the real target here is .50-cal rifles, and they will 'allow' shotguns to be excluded from the bill.

Can ANYONE in Illinois (or anywhere else) tell me when and where a .50 cal rifle has been used in a crime?

Brought to us courtesy of Illinois Mayor Daley. Governer Bagoshit has said he will sign the bills - contrary to his earlier campaign promises. There are actually three of four bills in the Illinois senate. The cumulative effect is to basically outlaw gun ownership in the state and require people with FOID cards to register at local police stations for fingerprinting and photographs - just like sex offenders. This is the real deal and the Chicago Nazis are trying to sneak it in while everyone is distracted with the war.

In a word, NEVER.

It ain't about crime; it's about control.
To: pabianice
If I wasn't so prudent I would hope this would pass just to show the damn duck hunters they should have been with us all along.

"The architect of the bill is Chicago Mayor Richard Daley"
A communist is the worst form. This won't pass.

Exactly right, and these anal retentive control addicts must be thwarted.

A recall campaign against whom? Dick Daley and his fellow Chicago socialists are the fuel driving this. The people of Chicago have no problem with this legislation. A majority of them probably think it doesn't go far enough. The soccer moms, the coffee house intellectuals, the pink ghetto attorneys, college kids, etc., view gun owners much like downstate gun owners SHOULD be viewing them - with utter revulsion and disgust. As things now stand, the good folk of Cairo, Mt. Vernon, Shelbyville, Clinton, Peru, et al will be taking their societal cultural marching orders from the drooling leftwing loons who operate the state off the shore of Lake Michigan. Incremental gun seizure is only the first step. (Well, one of the first steps. The FOID card requirement was actually the first.)

"The specific source of concern is Senate Bill 1195, which has passed out of committee and could come up for a vote this week. The bill would make it illegal for Illinoisans to own or take delivery of a long list of guns that includes "any firearm having a caliber of 50 or greater." Well, 50 cal and .50 cal are vastly different, my friends. Perhaps they simply want ship's guns outlawed? And I'm sure they'll put some "compromise" language allowing shot under .50 cal (shotguns), though possibly outlawing shotgun slugs/sabot rounds and black powder (which is pretty popular here in PA...)

Welcome to Massachusetts. Here, gun owners have to be fingerprinted and registered with both the police and the state Department of Criminal Records (that's right; if you own a gun, you are a criminal).
The best part is notification. A gun owner here cannot move without notifying, by registered mail only, the police chief of his old town,. the police chief of his new town, and the state Dept. of Criminal Records.
This was also tried with convicted sex offenders. The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that it violated a sex offender's constitutional rights by requiring him to notify police if he moved. The same judges ruled that it's just fine to make law-abiding gun owners notify the police if they move.
DO NOT EVER say, "Oh, that's too drastic. They'd never do that!" They are coming after your firearms and they will never, ever stop.

Dick Daley and his fellow Chicago socialists are the fuel driving this.
There's also a rumor that Sarah "push my husband around like political furniture" Bradey pulled some consultants/lobbyists from California to help in this effort.
To: Basil Duke
Well, one thing I like about this, the criminal element will have a state full of victoms and probably leave us alone over here in Michigan.

This is just further proof (as if it was needed) that these 'rat polidiots don't know rifles from shotguns. They will change the law when their error is explained to them, but the law as written demonstrates their cavalier attitude toward all guns and gun owners. Eventually they will come for all the guns.
