If paleo-conservatives of Pat Buchanan's ilk aren't crypto-quasi-fascists then by God they'll pass muster until the real thing comes along!

like it or not, Israel is a factor here...
put it in a positive light - this iraq conflict is to prevent the unthinkable..imagine saddam has nukes, wmd[s] and suddenly he tosses one to tel aviv...we will see worldwar 3...USA will get suck in regardless
put it in a negative light, Israel did make noises about after Iraq, Iran is next the US should attack...
so the paleoconservative like Buchanan is not entirely wrong with his assessement...
as long as there is no peace between Israel and Palestinians - there wont be any peace in the region...
Personally, I do think the like of Wolfowitz and Perle are not necessarily pursuing this war simply based on the security of the American people...
just a simple observation..

Sad. Very sad. Pat Buchanan was a conservative "mentor" of sorts for me, as I was weaned on his Crossfire spars with Tom Braden. Those were the good old days. I don't know when and where Pat got off the right track, but he has continued to go down this path that is putting him farther and farther away from my beliefs and values. I just don't know where his contempt for Isreal comes from. Pat loved Reagan, and Reagan was certainly a great friend of Israel, and I don't recall Pat bashing Reagan. If anything, I have thought that the US has not backed Israel enough at various times. We have asked them to put up with a lot more terrorism in their country than we would ever allow here. Islamic extremists are out to destroy Israel and the US because we are Jewish and Christian, whom they despise the most. It would only be natural that we would have some shared interests and goals. I wonder if Pat learned anything from WW II. If the Allies had acted sooner to stop the Nazi atrocities against the Jewish people, MANY lives would have been spared. Does Pat want us to ignore the Middle East and watch it implode as the Arab countries seek to destroy Israel (once again) and Israel responds with nukes out of desperation?

That is the same charge Stalin's supporters came up with, how ironic. If you were against communist, "you were objectively a fascist.'
Political correctness is a disease far worse than I could have imagined.

Buchanan Charges Neocons With 'Warmongering'
Tue Mar 11 2003 11:53:48 ET
In this week's AMERICAN CONSERVATIVE, editor Pat Buchanan issues a controversial, 5000-word indictment of the 'War Party' of Bennett, Kristol, Podhoretz and Richard Perle.
MORE
The magazine will hit newsstands and bookstores tomorrow. With quotes and citations, Buchanan alleges:
'War Party' ideas and plans for an attack on Iraq had been 'in preparation far in advance of 9/11, and when President Bush was looking for a new front,' the neocons 'put their precooked meal in front of him. And Bush dug into it.'
Richard Perle wrote a paper urging Israeli PM Netanyahu to dump the Oslo Peace Accords and target Iraq -- five years before 9/11.
Undersecretary of Defense Douglas Feith urged Israel to ditch the Oslo and take back the West Bank though 'the price in blood would be high,' three years before the Camp David talks.
Pentagon official David Wurmser urged the U.S. to act in concert with Israel to 'strike fatally...the regimes of Damascus, Baghdad, Tripoli, Tehran and Gaza' -- nine months before 9/11.
Bennett, Kristol, Podhoretz 'seized on the horrific atrocity [of September 11] to steer America¹s rage into all-out war to destroy their despised enemies, the Arab and Islamic rogue states that have resisted U.S. hegemony and loathe Israel.'
The neocon vision is 'to conscript American blood to make the world safe for Israel....[They] seek American empire and the Sharonites seem hegemony over the Middle East. The two agendas coincide precisely.'
Buchanan charges Max Boot of the WSJ and Lawrence Kaplan of New Republic with 'playing the anti-Semitic card....to fend off critics by assassinating their character and impugning their motives.'
Developing....

Hey Pat! Cynthia McKinney's father conveyed your message with far fewer words -
IT'S THE JEWS! J-E-W-S!
Man, this guy keeps making it harder and harder to find anything about him to admire.

"This is a time for truth. For America is about to make a momentous decision: whether to launch a series of wars in the Middle East that could ignite the Clash of Civilizations against which Harvard professor Samuel Huntington has warned, a war we believe would be a tragedy and a disaster for this Republic. To avert this war, to answer the neocon smears, we ask that our readers review their agenda as stated in their words. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. As Al Smith used to say, Nothing un-American can live in the sunlight. "But have the neo-cons (and Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld) taken over Bush when Bush says Islam is a peaceful religion. Bush's efforts for a Palestine state, not the war, will be the moment of truth.

The man is a pathetic self-parody.
The charge of anti-semitism is "toxic" because anti-semites managed to slaughter millions of Jews. Sometimes the accusation happens to be true -- like with Pat.
Israel's interests are aligned with Americas on the side of civilization, particularly the Western variety. And, yes, calling this Isrtael's war aligns Pat nicely with the likes of Syria, Saddam, and Osama.

If these guys were serious about questioning the legitimacy of the neoconservative approach they would do it on the merits.
But they aren't and they don't. Instead the throw mud by saying the Jews have hijacked American policy and, as evidence, cite influential Jews who are neoconservatives and the confluence of American and Jewish interests - as if any such confluence is, ipso facto, proof of guilt.
Mud is too good for them. They should be thrown in a vat of s**t.

Many of us in the conservative camp are not Jewish, dont
particularly want an Israeli-centric foreign policy, but WE DO WANT SADDAM DONE WITH - *NOW* - and we are sick and tired of these lies and slurs about US intentions.
We can smell Pat B's anti-Israeli rants for what they are, it reeks of anti-semitism. I defer the William F Buckley and his judgment on that matter, who catalogued the record of Pat B 12 years ago, when Pat B was *then* falsely claiming that Iraq/Kuwait was all about Israel, and doing his darnedest to split the US from anything that might help the Jewish state of Israel.
Being wrong then doesnt make him right today.
To use Chirac's line, Pat "missed an opportunity to shut up".

He's right about one thing, there is no discourse on Israel without the "race card" bring brought into play instantly.
I support Israel, because I believe them to be right.. But there's no rational discussion surrounding them. It's a third rail, you just can't go there. It's simply not allowed.
If you want to reduce intelligent, educated people to stammering & cursing all you have to do is mention the Jews.. Doesn't matter if your position is Pro or Con, someone is going to instantly lose their mind, clamp their hands over their ears and start yelling "Racist!"

Whatever!
The fact is a local Democrat Congresscritter named James Moran let the cat out of the bag the other day.
For years and years this reprobate drunk and wifebeater had been taking money from Islamofascist terrorist front organizations yet pretending to be just another classic Democrat Liberal.
He may have even said that G.W. wants to attack Iraq "for the oil" one time or the other, but his latest statement was that we wouldn't be involved in this Iraq business if it weren't for the Jews dragging us there.
Obviously all that "oil" talk was just a Democrat codeword for "Jew".
Now we get Buchanan noting that some, if not all Israelis might benefit from a war that vanquishes Saddam Hussein and he's against it! In thinking back over the years of local/semi-local politics and gossip it occurs to me that I've never seen Buchanan even laugh about Jim Moran's clown show, yet he was critical of Representative Traficant, Mayor Barry and others of that nature.
Do these guys know each other? Does Buchanan kneel next to Moran to take Communion on Sunday?
Someone might know, but it's not beyond belief that these two disciples of Father Coughlin might be in league with each other.

We charge that a cabal of polemicists and public officials seek to ensnare our country in a series of wars that are not in Americas interests. We charge them with colluding with Israel to ignite those wars and destroy the Oslo Accords.
Hence the present leaders of the nation are forced to seek the support of those alone who have benefited and continue to benefit from changing the form of the state, and who for that very reason became the driving force behind the revolution - the Jews.
