Last night I found out.
debate occuring on senate floor regarding partial birth abortion

There has been some back door goings on as far as getting the VP involved since last week. It looks like that part of the game plan has paid off as far as the constitution issue involved here is concerned.

On this constitution issue that comes up here today and if there is any crucial procedural questions, the Vice President can rule on it.

If Dick Cheney and the Republican leadership had the courage to make such a ruling---one that would be perfectly in keeping with constitutional principles and the vast bulk of Senate tradition---they would go down in history as heroes.
And the American people would laugh while the Democrats screamed...

It will be interesting to see what happens. I will be shocked if this is anything but a "hearing" like it is being billed, but we will see.

We are so very angry over the democrats blocking Estrada! They seem to think they can walk all over the Constitution and no one will notice much less care. It is time for hard ball and I don't mean Chrissies little game. Follow the Constitution 24-7 and follow Rush's advice. Daschle needs to feel the heat!

Can't Bush just make an appointment when everybody goes home for break?

Tell me about it....I hope i wake up tomorrow and find something incredible is going on.
Speaking of which, since I do not seem to be researching for my paper, I think I will try to get a couple hours of sleep and then pull an all nighter tomorrow....and probably Wednesday (man, I have so much stuff to do it is not even funny).

The GOP leadership may well be following through on my proposal to them last week. See the FR thread "Vice President Cheney can order an immediate vote to confirm Miguel Estrada" and

"The Republicans want the Senate to rubber-stamp President Bush's efforts to pack the judiciary with right-wing ideologues," said Ralph G. Neas, president of People for the American Way.Sorry, but here's one guy whom I'd refuse to die for defending his 1st. Amendment right!

It's about time "GOP majority"!
I've been saying this ever since the filabuster started...Load 'em up with the most conservative judges Bush has nominated.
This will show anyone who still hasn't figured it out, exactly what the RATS are up to.

I have no problem with the Dims blocking a judicial appointment. There is too much work for Federal Judges as it is - because there are too many frivolous lawsuits. If there is no relief for their case load, perhaps judges will band together, initiate their own brand of legal reform and start tossing out some cases that lack merit on their face. If they likewise tossed out badly pled cases -forcing attornies to write clearly and succinctly, it would be another good move.

So what's happening today? Is Cheney going to rule that there can be no filibuster of a confirmation vote?
