Well-connected advisers tell me that if, as now seems likely, the UN refuses to back action against terror, Mr Bush will announce a "temporary" suspension of America's membership, to be accompanied by an offer: if the UN gets its act together and carries out long-overdue reforms, America (and its money) will return. But if there is no reform, the temporary withdrawal will, de facto, become permanent. Heh heh...heh. So the multi-headed beast that rises out of the sea gets a deadly wound, eh? Bring it...

A phrase is doing the rounds: the US out of the UN, and the UN out of the US. I love it! Another great post, Ivan; you're outdoing yourself.

Ivan,
It occurs to me that this points out the entire problem with the Euros.
We have, for the first time since Reagan, a President who actually means what he says.
Here lies the rub, IMHO
After years and years of politicians who only say the words, and not mean them. They are confounded by Bush.
I believe that the political world they inhabit at home has blinded them to the possability that a President actually MEANS what he says, and that he intends to carry out exactly what he says he will.
Your thoughts...
Cheers,

After tonight's magnificent press conference by our strong and resolute President, I do believe this is true.

Thanks for the keen eye.
Admitedly the US v. UN is a new and welcomed twist but there are many on this forum who have long held that the "axis of evil" statement was far from allegorical.
I've also spectulated that after the "evil twins" are eliminated pressuer will be brought to bare on Pakistan to reform and our ultimate target is the misspent wealth of the Saudi royal family and their wealthy sychophants.
Best regards Mad man!

I've been waiting for decades for the UN to be booted out of the US. Then maybe I'll be able to get a parking space in Manhattan.

They can save all that money they have budgted for renovations.
Just let the people who lost office space on 9-11 have the UN building.

Ain't gonna happen.
The (sometimes literally) unwashed masses have been brought up to believe that the UN is some holy organization since the first day they learned there was life outside of America or wherever they live.
Maybe I'm just a pessimist, but I don't see the masses turning against the UN even after we go in and find all sorts of nasty things in Iraq. I'm talking of the American masses, not what the continental pissants think. What they think is of no consequence to anyone.
