The problem is that the clear ones break at the hinges in cold weather. Get an opaque one, then cut out the middle and rivet in a sheet of plexiglass.

Thanks. Tried that but the CG and pendulum movement needs a perfect vertical balance. I guess if I countered the load equally on both sides it would work.

Three attack dogs in the house? With small children?!? Why can't they just save themselves the aggrivation and possibility of a death and just buy a friggin Lab?

I love Sig Sauer handguns.Me, too. I bought a P220 .45 stainless at a gun show last year. The minute I put it in my hands I knew that was "it". Had a Glock 17 before that and it never felt right in my hand.

Dogs are a reflection of the people who own them. They are like kids, you raise them to be violent, and that is what they will be.Nice sentiment.
Wrong.
But nice.

You need a nap. You're cranky. It's funny - I was just talking to my neighbor about his German Shepherd. Gentle loving dog... to his family. A stranger goes in the back yard and they're dog meat. Particularly if they are unaccompanied by the dogs family members.
I think you think I'm saying German Shepherds are evil. I'm not. Do I rank them as mean or aggressive as Pitt Bulls or Rotts? Nope. Do I rank them as aggressive as a doberman - it depends on the dog. But by comparison to a lot of other dogs I've seen - German shepherds can be very territorial and quite aggressive if they feel threatened. More so than any Golden Retriever or labrador or Irish setters I've been around. But what do I know. I'm just full of it. lol

No one is saying they cannot be aggressive - just that they are more honest about it. "As a rule" they don't just snap like a rottie or chow can. Heck, my mom has a nasty cocker spaniel, my sister-in-law has a nasty min-pin, my husband's ex has a mean dachshund. And personally, I am more frightened of my male barn cat than any dog I ever owned - he can get mean - and boy can he twist around to strike at you.

It is sickening to think that there are people (many of whom are in the national spotlight) who would be willing to see the dogs do their worst rather than have an armed person defend the victims.

I know, I just get defensive when it comes to German Shepards. I shouldn't have got so short with you....

I have a serious Dobie...see my homepage.
I do not leave him unsupervised around my wee ones even though he has never acted aggressively towards any family members. It's simply not worth the risk. He exists to protect our large family and property. He is fearless and has done his duty more than once. We love him dearly and he's smarter than some upright primates I know.
My old Rottie 15 years ago saved my then girlfriend from a break and enter (house occupied) serial rapist. When the 150 pound male Rottie finished with the perp, he looked like Griffin Dunne in "American Werewolf in London"...shredded.
The gunowners did the right thing here. I have no problem with it.

A situation in which a three foot length of iron pipe would have been more effective -- imho.

"People are stupid about dogs. Unlike most dogs, Rotts and Pit Bulls have to be trained NOT to attack."
And even when trained, they sometimes attack. You see, they have lousy memories!

The dog was hit by 5 .45 bullets and simply backed up!
Does it have a Kevlar hide?

Dogs who understand that they are the Omega ina pack of humans are great.
Dogs who think they are teh Alpha are a problem.
A dock pack is a real problem.
A pack of dogs are no longer controlled by humans. Think a bunch of wolves without fear of man.

Before or after they rip out a windpipe?
I love Rottwellers, but a poorly socialised rott or one who doesn't understand his place is a real threat.
Intact male Pit Bulls, Rottwiellers, Huskies, Dobermans, German Shephards, and all other large working dogs or Mastiffs are potential problems.

"Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said no one will be charged in the incident." To be fair, I doubt that this was a statement. More likely it was an answer, I envision it happening something like this:
Stupid Reporter: Will anyone be charged?
Debbie Carter: (Under breath) Idiot.
Debbie Carter: (Audibly) No, no one will be charged in the incident.
Debbie Carter: (Under breath) Idiot.

I'll just say my last word on this - there are certain dogs around which I'm much more cautious than I am other and German Shepherds are on that list. It doesn't mean I think they are at the same leve of aggressiveness as a Rot or a Pit Bull... just means I don't trust them unless I know them and they know me.
