Thank you for asking precisely what was going through my own mind. Their reasoning is pathetic.

But, they don't seem to be listening to their ELECTED leader, Tony Blair. They're waiting to listen to the stinking UN, for cripes' sake.

A few years ago I wasn't quite sure about Tony Blair. But now I can see that he has assured a place in history with Winston Churchill, Margaret Thatcher, Ronald Reagan, and yes of course, George W Bush.

I am very proud of Bush and Blair for doing what is right and not taking the easy way out like France, Germany, and Russia.

We (USA) now know who our true friends are; UK, Australia, Spain, and all of the NEW Europe! (I'm sure there are many more, but I just can't think this late.)Sorry for not listing all.

the polls showed a swing last night, not that opinion itself swung last night.

Over here, we call that the "Zogby effect." I'm glad to see that it is now being used for conservative ends.

In a major victory for Tony Blair, 75 per cent of voters said they back a war if the UN gives the all-clear.

Opposition falls to two in five if the inspectors do find evidence that Iraq is hiding weapons of mass destruction — even if the UN still does not vote in favour of action.

If the inspectors report a smoking gun in Saddam’s hand and the UN second vote is passed the British, by three to one, think troops should be used alongside Americans.

UN all-clear = 3 to 1

Evidence of hiding WMDs + no UN okay = 2 to 3

Smoking gun + UN 18th resolution okay = 3 to 1

Thanks for the post, MadIvan. I love you Brits. A more true and steady ally and friend America has never known.

I am a bit confused over the ratios mentioned in the article. But, 40% approval without UN approval looks like a big step forward from previous numbers.

Can't resist.

Bush & Powell

President Bush and Colin Powell are sitting in a bar. A guy walks in and asks the barman, "Isn't that Bush and Powell sitting over there?"

The barman says, "Yep, that's them."

So the guy walks over and says, "Wow, this is a real honor. What are you guys doing in here?"

Bush says, "We're planning WW III ".

And the guy says, "Really? What's going to happen?"

Bush says, "Well, we're going to kill 40 million Iraqis this time and one blonde with big tits.

The guy exclaimed, "A blonde with big tits? Why kill a blonde with big tits?

Bush turns to Powell, punches him on the shoulder and says, "See, smart ass, I told you no one would worry about the 40 million Iraqis!"

When we see the extent of the bio-chemical bombs that our military captures and has CNN/FOX broadcast, they will all deny they questioned Bush and blame him for not telling everyone about how bad it was.

I am not at all surprised. The "English Speaking Peoples" destiny will always be intertwined. Churchill is smirking from heaven right now.

I'm glad Britons are coming through. Can someone explain why? And also explain why they were so strongly against us before?

Because the media over there is controle by a bunch of liberal commie's and they have not told the truth. It's like the statement that 90% of the turks are aginest us, I'd bet money that only about 40% of the turks have phones. How do you know what they think, the same is true for most of eu countries, non have the phone saturation that is found in the USA. How do you get a poll?

The only possible reason that we should waste our time with the UN is that it helps our embattled ally and friend, Tony Blair.

that's great news...we need more ally support here..

seriously, i doubt anyone still think the war is not inevitable..

the comment on the usa acting unilaterally in an unipolar world is right on...usa could either be a dominant world power without worring the darn un crap or replay the isolationist past...neither case is good for world peace..

should be interesting if the Blixen gives the easy way out for chirac and the ruskies - if blixen say inspections not working, iraq not cooperating and inspections can't go on forever then it may just give the french, the ruskies a fig leave to support the final 18th un resolution on iraq...

if war is inevitable, the french has the decision to make, do they wanna be on the sideline or wanna be opposed to the usa in the long run..what happen if the us/uk troops find all the under table stuff the french had with saddam, how about those illegal weapons or the untold horror stories of saddam..anyone of these will render the un back to the league of nation status...as such, where would the french be without the veto power over ythe [former] united nations...lol

a unilateral usa in a unipolar world is one thing these nations gotta worry in the long run..

once Gulliver left Lilliput, he is not coming back...

I am constantly amazed and bewildered that people are willing to proxy their security, autonomy and future to a collectivist, corrupt and incompetent organization like the UN. An organization which answers to no one. Why do they put more faith in the UN than in their own freely elected governments? It's maddening.

Because for the last couple of generations, they've been indoctrinated to believe they are not soverign, that international organizations like the EU and UN rank higher. And it doesn't help that Europeans in general have always had that strange class thing going on; they've always believed that there's a "ruling class" that truly is better than them and knows what is best for them.

IF Cameroon and Chile and New Guinea say "yes", we have legitimicay that we would not have if Cameroon, Chile and New Guinea said no to. This makes sense??? Not!

Worst thing is, ask anybody you know who's anti-war (before bitchslapping them vigorously) if they can spot any of those countries on a globe. ;-)

Bleh. Buh-bye, U.N., don't let the door hit your big bureaucratic ass on the way out.

The poll was done by Mori, a reputable polling agency. You can look at the results on www.mori.com. These results, I found out later, were also in the Scotsman.

You can apologise at any time now.
