BAWWWHAHAHAHAHAHA! I KNEW this would happen!
Maybe that re-vote will happen Tuesday after all. If they pull their heads out of their petulant, immature asses, maybe Plan A still has time. I hope we are sneaking as much materiel as possible into Iraqi Kurdistan in the mean time. After Tuesday, screw 'em. They can have their independence, and their recession, and we can have all our lovely money.
BTW, A_Turk, don't blame State for their vote. They could easily have avoided looking like prostitutes by not ACTING like prostitutes.
Love the Led Zep quote Bob.

Turkish economic unease stoked by troop rejectionHope turkish economy is going to go down the tubes where it always belonged. This time their economy (rather an artificial scam) supported by hearty US donations over last 50 years is going to hit the sweet spot in a slam into a sewer where it always belonged.
To: Anticommie
Maybe the will have a nice earthquake too and it takes out there main banking centers.
1.6 million Turkish Lira to one US dollar ought to tell anyone what their economy is like, and then they reject $15 billion from us. If they expect the EU to save them, they are smokin' to much hashish.
Freud would say the are suicidal.

Why don't we just invade Seria & attack Iraq from the west???
To: BOBTHENAILER
I think that is really funny and it serves em right! We should have the attack move northward and let them iraqis overrun the "turkeys"!

I certainly agree with your last paragraph. However, I question how 95% of Turkey's population can be against war with Iraq. I mean my reading tells me the Turkish economy totally tanked after the Gulf War. If that is true, how can their trade with Iraq be improved without regime change?
Therefore it seems they should be happy to provide a base in Turkey for our operations, or is it another Muslim nation getting more radical?

During the Cold War, Turkey was a valuable ally because of their location along the border with the CCCP. Afterward, their only strategic value came from their position on the Iraq border. But, if they're unwilling to cooperate with us in a war on Iraq, their strategic value to the U.S. = 0.
Can't wait til the DoD turns those ships around. Their markets will drop like a rock making today's 14% loss look like a slight down-side correction. And that will be....well....justice.
Say goodbye you bunch of ignorant, islamic, turkeys.

And that will be....well....justice.It really is too bad to see a former stalwart ally get islamicized. I agree, the drop in Turkey's economy in coming days will be breathtaking and, as you said, it will be......justice.
In John Wayne's voice...."Well pilgrim, once you strap on that Islamic iron, you better make damn sure ya know how ta use it."

"Turkey's sensitivity to the possibility of war in Iraq is explained in part by its experience of the 1991 Gulf War, which cost the country dearly in lost trade and tourism revenues."
Turkey will gain that trade and tourism when lots of oil money flows into Iraq. They win anyways.

What are the regular people saying, a_Turk? If the Parliment was just voted in, are the people still supporting it?

If that is true, how can their trade with Iraq be improved without regime change? The figure is widely reported, but I'm at a loss to explain it as well for the same reason you cite.
A major trading partner is going to be liberated, rebuilt, have trade limiting sanctions lifted, and this is something you oppose, pissing off billions of dollars of aid to loans to your country in the process, even though the thing is going to happen anyway?!
To all appearances it is a case of mass stupidity.

Tsk, tsk.....I hope we learn how to conduct a war without having to buy friends and allies! We have wasted so much time on UN and Turkey! We could have done this and had it over with months ago!
Powell reassured Congress when he testified that he felt we would have Turkey. Man, oh, man! Has he made some SNAFU's, or what?!

Since they're mostly against the war, there's euphoria. Soon as they're hit with rising taxes though, they're not going to be smiling.
Another government bites the dust, unless they have a genie in the bottle..
