And there always those who if a death happens w/ a cop involved, then the cop bears no blame and always acted the way he should have. In this case, the cop followed the don't think, "shoot ,high speed chase through conjested traffic, whatever it takes w/ no thought to victim or public safety philosophy. No consideration was given to:
1. Before the the perp took off, the only offense was a traffic violation.
2.One out of every 5 million children a person crosses paths w/ is kidnapped.
3. It's OK if the kid is killed anyhow because this kid must be the 1 in 5 mil kidnapped kids and kidnapped kids deserve to die, or something, (that thought process confuses the hell out of me.)
4. Never, ever, consider what you do before responding. Full court press every time. Guns, chase whatever.
5. Many large urban areas, those w/ the most experience in high speed chases in conjested areas, as evidenced in the article's mention of the NYC cop's critisism (oops, both cops can't be right, which one is it?) have changed the policy to only use a high speed chase when the perp will kill or injure more people than if they don't pursue them aggressivly.
Heres another one for the "cops is always right" Freepers to ponder.Perhaps some high ranking professionals such as (assuming by the screen name) CaptainJustice can deliver another one of his educational, well written, professional , intelligent replies:
1.last fall or late summer I think it was, more or less, low speed, on TV chase seen on Fox News, perp kidnaps ex-spouse/girl friend/ whatever, in NC.
2.Perp and victim drive up and down I-95 for hours, followed by helicoptor and NC State Troopers.
3. cops have time, block all traffic.
4.Around dusk, perp & victim head north to VA, I-95 blocked, no other traffic.
5.VA State Troopers take over.
6. VA cops decide to end situation immediatley, put down tire flattening strip in general area of Emporia, barely across state line.
7.car forced to stop.
8.Perp pulls trigger, viewers are treated to the sight of glass and brain spray through vehicle window.
9.Perp commits suicide.
Again, different cops opinion.
A. NC follows, blocks roads, perp and victim leave state alive.
B. VA forces situation to a head, and victim looses her's.
My question to high ranking professionals and others is, which cops do you choose to defend in the NC/VA incident?
Does the logic most everyone has already agreed too is that the NYC cop was wrong and the Chesterfield cop was right, forcing the issue even though the odds were that the girl would die is correct also apply and it is a good thing that the real life kidnap victim (since cop defenders all love to generate "might be kidnapped fictions", I thought a real one may be interesting) died?
