All of this is dictated by the behavior of the woman, not the cop. Place the blame where it belongs. Yes, there are cowboys among the police but they are far rarer than drug-crazed, delusional women. I'll stand with the cop until evidence comes in to prove that he acted recklessly.

The cops have two-way radios in their cars. There is no shortage of police officers and state troopers in Chesterfield County and also a state police helicopter available, usually over at the state police headquarters, just a few miles away.

Obviously, you have no understanding of what motivates a police officer to risk his own life in trying to capture a suspected felon.

The officer wasn't "hot dogging," as you claim, but due to the highly congested traffic, where a vehicle can more easily elude the police, even a helicopter, the officer stayed with the vehicle until its unfortunate conclusion, which was the MOTHER'S fault.

Stop trying to paint the police as the bad guy here and put the blame where it belongs.

murder by Mom, manslaughter by cops in my law book.

Let me guess.

You've been busted for drug possession, you see the police as "jack booted thugs," and you are a registered member of the Libertarian Party, right?

I thought so.

a crash in a pickup driven by a drug-crazed, delusional woman @ 80 mph is far more likely to result in the kid's death than a crash in a pickup driven by a drug-crazed, delusional woman @ 30 mph. If the cop isn't a cowboy, then he's just plain stupid. My bet is bet is he's both.

Wrong on all counts. I just don't lick every jackboot I see & have enough common sense to know chasing a pickup w/ a kid in it @ 80 mph in rush hour when you have a radio, a helicoptor, and plenty more cops ahead @ your disposal may not be best way to respond to all situations.

And don't tell me about cops. I know some my locals who get sloshed and brag how they don't have to worry about getting a DWI while driving home. They have this little after shift get together called "choir practice" from time to time, of which I myself have attended.

I know for a fact that even if you are wearing jackboots and a badge, you stll sink if you try to walk across water.

I'm just waiting for some idiot to post that it has something to do with 'pentecostal blah-blah-blah' or other comments that have little to do with this.

She's a lose nut excusing her irresponsible behavior with a broad-brush endictment for a past hurt.

People who truly know the God of the Bible and what He instructs/desires, know that He moves us to do/seek what is good, right, sound and constructive - not destructive.

Sounds like you've been putupon by by one of the boys in blue. What would stop this wonderful mom from smashing into your supposed roadblock up ahead? Now I guess you'll respond with "they shoulda let her run outta gas", or , how bout'" a big fluffy airbag to stop the chase."You judge this cop without knowing his record or anything else about him. You chastise police for not enforcing DWI, then expect them let an obviously drugged/intoxicated woman ride off with a kid. You used the term jackboot so many times,I'm beginning to think you have one as part of your anatomy. I suggest you talk to a proctologist about removing it.

The kid is dead,so the cop was right. They are always right. Good job, officer. Chasing a crazy woman @ 80 mph in rush hour is the right thing to do. Now if she only just killed another innocent person in an additional car, we give would you a promotion.

Maybe what I need to see a proctologist for is to get my head inserted, that way I wouldn't be able to see the obvious and could join the "cops are always right" crowd.

As has already been pointed out to you, how do you expect the 'cops ahead' or the helicopter to do any good unless the original officer is able to keep up with the fleeing vehicle so as to relay it's location?

See, the thing is, you're just an ignorant cop hater and you dont know what you are talking about. You dont understand police work at all. Officer sees a fleeing perp with a child in the car. He doesnt know if she's on her way to be raped or killed by some child molestor, he doesnt know why the perp is running. Its his duty to check it out. The mom bears 100% responsibility and I wish you anarchistic cop-haters would just shut your mouth. You malign the people sworn to protect you and you simply embarrass yourself in the process. You compare these cops to Nazis, you dont even know him! You slap Nazi labels on people you dont like because you think it adds to your arguement. It doesn't, you dont know what you're talking about. You're just a sad little person...

There are folks out there that if a death happens and there is a cop within a 2 mile radius, they would blame the cop. No matter how it happened or whose fault it is, it will always be the cop that is targeted by their wrath.

I put these people in the same group as those 5-10% of people who are anti-war, no matter if enemy tanks are crushing their house. Ditto for the 5-10% who are so pro-war, they don't care who it is between. Same with the eco-nuts that would save a bird's life or a tree before they would save a child in danger. Same goes for those who like to relate everything to the War on Drugs. I would even say the same about those few who would point out a spelling mistake, no matter how touching or unimportant it is in the thread.

Luckily for us, those are a small minorty, a small fraction of people that like to give the rest of us a bad name.

...it was probably just a matter of time before she killed the kid herself....

On what evidence do you make that prediction, Johnny?

...she already tried to escape twice from the hospital. why put officers in danger of this woman who killed her child?...

Key word: "tried."

Where's the danger? Surely a couple of cops can handle one woman, on an escort to her daughter's funeral.

If there's a perceived danger (ie, no real danger, just sufficient fantasy of one to produce an excuse) then call for volunteers. Hopefully there's some officers, at the station, with enough Christian compassion in their souls to make the effort.

How about this Byron?

Don't know, amigo. "Hallelujah, my baby's with the Lord"? It's not in dispute that the poor woman has a mental disorder. I'm assuming that circumstance could only be exacerbated by her non-attendance at the funeral. Cheers, By.

Chasing a deranged woman w/ a kid in the vehicle through rush hour traffic stands a greater chance of killing the kid regardless of where the kid was obtained from.

A deranged woman willing to carry her own child through rush hour traffic while fleeing from the police is obviously presenting a clear, present and ongoing danger to that child. The policeman had a DUTY to pursue. I contend that any compassionate adult would have pursued this vehicle under these circumstances.

Or the kid should be killed in case she was kidnapped?"

That is a ludicrous statement, and does not deserve a response.

there were no reports of a kidnapping

Another ridiculous statement. There are always reports of kidnapping; at any given moment I would imagine there are hundreds if not thousands of active kidnapping files in the US. However, it's really a moot point because the woman was fleeing and endangering the child. At that point, the issue of whose child it was became irrelevant. The child needed protecting, the woman needed arresting. Simple as that. It is a shame it ended in tragedy for the child, but that does not change the policeman's responsibility. If the same situation arises tomorrow, I hope he gives chase.

Regards,
TC

Oh, STFU!

I am so sick of every wacko, nutcase, emotionally retarded broad on the face of the earth doing this crap and then following it with: "well, yes.. but I was molested as a child.."

Who cares? You're a nut and you need some kind of mental help here..

Instead of appealing to strangers with your "molestation" story, you could look to your husband to provide the support you desire.. If you didn't desert him in florida, that is.

Do me a favor, Just kill this nut, turn the woman who ran her worthless, cheating husband down with the mercedes loose and declare a national holiday!

Call it the first annual: "There you go, Happy now?" day.

PS: I agree with the decision to give chase.

It's not the cops responsibility to safeguard the child.. It's the mothers fault for putting her in that position to begin with. And she could have simply stopped at any time.

Anyone who's driven a pickup knows that on the blacktop there's just not much chance of evading a cop. It's a sucker bet and she took it.
