"The jurisdiction of use of the weapon is in the cockpit and the cockpit only," explained TSA spokeswoman Heather Rosenker. "The weapon needs to be re-secured in the locked box if the cockpit door opens." "Lock up the pistol, Captain, Mohammad Achmed al-Moron just kicked the cockpit door open!"
With public "servants" like Heather Rosenker, who needs enemies?

Can anyone explain why this ineffective, ultra-liberal, anti-freedom Clinton holdover is still in the Bush administration!!!

I can see how this will deter even the most zealous terrorist. It's good that this is public knowledge. They should add the even though the gun is in the cockpit in a Lock Box (Al Gore?), the bullets are in the main cargo hold. Air Marshalls are seated in 6 A. Great plan.

Stupid bureaucrats are forever screwing things up! People such as she do not have a clue.

The feds don't want the pilots armed. They are only going through the motions to placate critics. The government is going to make it nearly impossible to have armed pilots. Our government is nothing but a travesty and cannot be trusted to do the right thing.
To: patton
If you've read the requirements for obtaining permission to carry firearms in the cockpit that the TSA put out you would relize there will be very very few pilots willing to undergo the process to get the permit. The TSA has established a procedure that could very well result in a pilots loss of his certificate and his job.

As I recall, until last year pilots were allowed to carry a weapon and most of them never knew that they could, it was left up to the individual pilot as it should be today.

Now this pisses me off. W needs to fire the turd. Do any bureaucrats even think anymore? Geez. Maybe they can provide cockpit schematics and keys/combos for the gun lockers directly to Al Qaeda and save us all the heartburn.
What really cracks me up is all the contortions these morons are going through to ensure that no "whacko pilots" use the guns to inflict harm on innocent passengers. It apparently never occurs to these Einsteins that such a pilot could simply steer the aircraft into the ground while the other pilot's on a potty break (a la Egyptair).

The TSA is trying to set up a hijacking and repeat of 9/11/01 in order to further the gun grabboid agenda. That is the only conclusion possible

Having done its best to block this program until Congress acted, the TSA now seems determined to sabotage the program that Congress mandated. Why? How does the agency benefit?

I guess that the ax the chopped into two the Federale log of the FAA didn't magically cut away the deadwood.

But I doubt if deadwood benefits from calling undue attention to itself. I still don't understand the motivation.
To: aristeides
You underestimate how much self-esteem the deadwood has.

"Are they truly concerned about airline security, or are they concerned about building their own empire?" They're only concerned about building their own empire, of course!
It will be an empire that commands a patronage army 72,000 strong that were hired according to Mega-'affirmative action' guidelines on steroids and that feels it owes its jobs to Liberal Democrats and RINOs.
Gender, race, color, ethnicity and sexual persuasion are almost the most important criteria for an applicant to the TSA, if not the most.
"As of Oct. 9, some 22 percent of TSA's screeners are African-American, a number twice that of the current civilian workforce population. While 8 percent of the American workforce is Hispanic, TSA's workforce is already 11 percent Hispanic."
Applicants for jobs with TSA are not informed of their test scores and cannot request that information.
Applicants for jobs with TSA are not given a placement number that will give them any idea of the order in which they will be called.
The date you applied and were accepted for placement on the 'Ready List' appear to mean as little as your test scores and, as mentioned before, much less than your gender or skin color.
"Although whites make up 77.9 percent of the workforce nationally, only 58 percent of TSA's workforce is white."
Or, will ever be allowed to be more than 58% white, under any circumstances, the way things are going! LOL!
That's what's important to George Bush and his 'New TSA'!
Reverse discrimination is Job #1 at the 'New TSA'!
Woo Hoo, help is on the way!
