Also, if you have a CCW, always show that with your driver's license as well as a military id card if you have one.

Why on God's earth should I show a cop my CCW? First off it's none of his f***ing business. Second many (not most, but many) cops are uneducated, emotionally warped trouble makers. So it may just open a can of worms.

Exactly what's to be gained by showing your CCW without any prompting?

simple, it shows that you are a "good" guy, never convicted of any felonies. Also, if you are carrying, this is the best way to tell him you are, so that he doesn't draw down on you when you have to tell him you are armed.

Even if you act like an idiot and really deserve to have your face smashed into the pavement it probably won't happen.

Heck, even if you're getting ice cream with your girlfriend, you probably won't be misidentified by a FBI agent with a prior history of shooting the wrong people and catch a 5.56 round in the face. But if that does happen I guess it's comforting to know that the agent in question will only be mildly inconvenienced by the whole affair.

Yea, I thought that was what they used on beaches. It seems pretty stupid to drive a full size SUV on a crowded beach.

The Police on several of the beaches on Long Island use SUV's, usually smaller 2 door type, like the Ford Bronco or Chevy Blazer.

I also have seen the small garbage trucks, but they don't usually roll out until late in the day.

And after TWA800 exploded, there where hummers all over the beaches (I don't think they even hit 5mph though).

Look, there is no such thing as 'the French'. The people who live in France are not a monolith. Some of them may hate the U.S., some may love it, some of them may hate France and, probably, most of them couldn't care less about Bush, Chirac, Putin, Potemkin or the FoxNews Channel.

On the other hand, these people just had 2 of their children killed. This is a personal tragedy. Politics has absolutely nothing to do with this. Injecting politics into something like this is not appropriate.

Florida law does not require that CCW permit holders notify police if they are carrying. Click here.

Of course, you may at your own discretion. But the law does not require this, and I advise not.

Stay safe,

thanks,

for what reason do you advise not to show the ccw? It seems to me this would help to avoid a potentially dangerous confrontation.

And depending on the individual you are dealing with, notifying the police officer that you are carrying may itself lead to unfortunate behaviors on his part. Why risk it? The operative word in concealed carry is concealed, and since you are a law-abiding, peaceful citizen, why unnecessarily risk setting off alarm bells?

I have interacted with police on several occasions while carrying -- at parades, at Jeb Bush's election rally, in a convience store, at the local Chinese food place fetching my take-out, and even once when I was pulled over (and talked my way out of a ticket). What they didn't know obviously did not hurt them. If they were observant enough to ask, I would have told them right then and there and readily show them my permit (which is also the law). Bottom line, if I am to trust them, then they must trust me.

Your mileage may vary.
