The reason for this is smoking related deaths and other "living" deaths are deaths WHO can't control. It won't be long till the excess old population becomes the "problem" and government mandated euthanasia becomes the "solution". This is acceptable because it is planned and controlled.

Invasion of the Libertarian Body Politic Snatcher scream ping

Heheheheh...Actually, there are folks from all sides of the issue on the WOD list including some that I'm quite sure would take offense at being called a Libertarian. FReepmail me if you'd like to get on. While we might not agree, you tend to look at things in the context of the Constitution which is more than several of the pro-WOD people can say.

Sigh. Still like to find a good article to post in RLC Forum to see if we can talk a little realism about it all (or how few versions of realism we can agree on). I confess though, that the subject matter seems much more tedious to an old fashioned republican / conservative / "classic liberal," than it is, to those most skewed toward a preeminence of property rights.

Well, here's a thread pinged to me earlier, while not in the RLC area, it concerns property rights here in my home state of New Jersey. Betcha we agree almost 100% on this one.

Using a special power provided for in its constitution, the WHO initiated procedures in late 1999 to develop what Liden says is its first international health treaty. "[The] WHO has a mandate to organize and negotiate international treaties on health. It had never been used before, although it is there in the constitution of the organization," Liden said.

So the first use of this power is for TOBACCO control?
Oh yeh, THAT'S smart.

As drafted, the treaty contains 38 articles aimed at gradually reducing both the supply and demand for tobacco products over the coming years through education, taxation, and increased law enforcement against smuggling, and through controls on advertising and marketing.

Yeh, just hit the bolded and you'll see what it's REALLY about.
