Here are some sample letters to guide you on your way to writing your own:

To Any Service Member:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your willingness to serve our nation.

Millions of Americans are in your debt and are proud of your efforts and sacrifice. It is because of you that we are able to carry on our daily lives outside the shadow of oppression. We are able to work, play, and embrace freedom because of your skill and vigilance. Your tireless and often ignored efforts keep America the greatest nation on earth!

Yours is the face of the American Dream. Your presence insures that our dream will not be shattered, and I am forever in your debt.

I pray you will be safe and that, when your mission is complete, you will return home to the arms of your loved ones.

Yours in American spirit,

A Grateful Citizen

To Any Service Member:

I know you've probably heard of recent anti-war protests staged by the great unwashed, quasi-intellectual, morally bankrupt featherweights around the globe. These freakshows received extensive coverage by mainstream media outlets.

I thought you might like to hear how MOST Americans feel about your contributions, though. We are DAMN proud to have you put your life on the line for our nation! Your contribution to the preservation of all which Americans hold dear is greatly appreciated.

Don't think for one second that the "peace protestor" idiots represent what the majority of your fellow Americans feel. These walking oxymorons are clueless, and I am almost overwhelmed by the fact that it is only by your selfless efforts that their freedom of speech is even possible.

We, as a nation, owe you a tremendous debt of gratitude. As events unfold, know that you are in the thoughts and hearts and prayers of countless Americans. We ask that God protect you and bring you safely home.

Thank you for your service,

(your name here)

To Any Service Member:

Wherever you may be stationed, whatever role you might be serving, I want you to know how much your service means to those of us back home.

I believe that every individual is born with unique capabilities which play a role in life's Master Plan. Whether your expertise is communications, administration, marksmanship, covert operations, maintenance, finance, food preparation, ordinance, medical assistance or whatever, you, as an individual, will contribute to the cause of freedom. I am grateful for your service.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for volunteering to contribute your unique capabilities to protect and defend us all. My thoughts and prayers are with you for your protection and safe return.

(your name here)

YOU can make a difference :-)
