Thank you! You wrote: "We need to stop calling it 'counter-protesting'. The fact is, when we 'counter' a liberal argument, we lose by default. Instead, we are simply staying the course and on the agenda the Bush administration has set."

I think all of us would like a clearer statement of purpose. Support our Troops is one I like... Support our Commander in Chief doesn't resonate with some but it does with me. And since I'm a helpless conservative pimp, here's your chance to agree with me:

Support the Commander in Chief

MAKE SURE to have someone there w/ a camcorder to have an independent record of the event.

Much as I despise Michael JAckson, he was smart to do that.

Support our troops is perfect - I have used it myself time and time again when speaking with anti-war nuts & the media. It's a rally point EVERYONE should be able to get behind. It goes something along the lines of:

"If you don't agree with the war effort, that's fine. It's something we can agree to disagree on. But support for our troops is something I think we can both agree on, because those are our brothers, sisters, fathers, uncles and cousins that are putting thier lives on the line for you and I. It doesn't matter if you are a democrat or a republican; it's not about pro-war or anti-war. It's about supporting our family members who are courageous enough to be willing to die for you and I."

This argument has been successful at shutting up a number of anti-war DEMONstrators for me.

Subject: Re: Documentary

Dave,

I apologize for my lack of explanation in the use of pro-war.  I simply
want all views, from all walks of life.  When I say 'pro-war', what I mean
is the belief that we shouldn't just sit around waiting during what seems to
be a hide and seek game with arms.  That our military presence in Iraq is
what we need for the goal of peace.  A lot of people believe that the only
way to achieve peace is to take out what threatens its existance.  The media
has made the division of pro-war and anti-war.  I'm looking for the extremes
and everything in between.  I was just keywording with the use of 'pro-war'.
Not meaning it quite so literally.  This will be a film with everyone's
views.  And I'm looking for exactly what you said in your reply.  Because I
feel that you speak the same as the majority of Americans.  And that is one
of the messages I want to send out.  This weekend I'm filming an Anti-war
domonstation, and will be getting their views.  But to achieve the goal of
this project, I need people with the same voice as yours.  I would greatly
appreciate anything that you can help me with.  Once again, I apologize for
not explaining my term better.

Sincerely,
Ross Lyons

Thank you Ross...

I am sharing our communications with a very special group of people. The
attached photo, reprinted with permission, is a sample of ordinary people,
exercising extraordinary effort, to offer a differing viewpoint on the
crisis in Iraq.

Larger view

Brad Cloven protests outside the Peace Prize Forum, saying it's time to "take Saddam out" and free the Iraqi people from his rule. (MPR Photo/Bob Reha)

"I want people to understand that peace is good but freedom is better," Cloven says. "The Iraqis deserve freedom, and cowering in fear of their impending nuclear weapons isn't freedom for us either. It's time to take Saddam out."

This weekend, another of our colleague left the comfort of his warm car
because of a poor cell-phone connection. He stood outside in blowing snow to
share his New York City "Support our Troops" experience in the midst of the
Ant-War protests with a west coast talk radio host on KFSO San Francisco.
His friend joined us last night for a follow-up report on KFBK's Mark
Williams show here in Sacramento.

I realize you probably have some time constraints to work around.  Our folks
would probably like some examples of your previous works or help you if you
are an emerging filmmaker.  Fair enough? Feel free to call me anytime: (916)
448-1636 We'll circulate your email address after you next reply, if that's
alright. Thank you for your clarifications today.

You and I disagree on this one.

I Want WAR! I lost a friend in the basement of the Pentagon on 9-1-1.

My gf lives in NYC and I have seen ground zero firsthand.

I want war!

"You and I disagree on this one. I Want WAR!"

My friend, my heart is with you. I also respect your passion and suspect anyone who has been to the pit, walked away with the same pain in their guts. The cops here in Sacramento after retuning from NYC expressed similar feelings. Other conservative friends, much the same.

In my prior life, I did business at the World Trade Center several times a year. I have a sense of guilt because I met some wonderful people there and will never know if they perrished. The primary client I visited, moved their HQ to London years before 9-11.

Were it not for the unwashed commie bastards overly represented by these protests, I could see myself attending a vigil or prayer circle. Honestly, I've not managed my anger very well... as the sole survivor whose WWII father didn't come home I have some clue how you and others must feel when such a loss is suffered. I guess I'm thinking of people who have been writing me lately, whose loved ones are heading to the middle east. I dread the thought of needing to comfort them if the need arrose. I dread the thought of their children clutching service medals in place of warm hugs from dad or mom like I had to. Iwill never get over that, nor do I want to. I just pray other don't have to either. I know you and I would share that prayer Pod....

This is a little after-the-fact, but I think you handled Mr. Lyons very well. His apology seems genuine, so just leave the ball in his court.

And thanks for setting up another radio/FReeper outreach. I wish I could have heard the show. Any chance of emailing me the link?
