Four million French citizens died in World War II because France did not standup to Germany in time. After watching your UN representative and Chirac these last few days, I wondered, "What if Chirac could go back in time and hold a similar position back then." Unfortunately, I believe what would happen is you would have 4 million French citizens dead in WWII

That, and the fact that their Navy scuttled itself rather than being allowed to be subsumed by the Vichy government. The bulk of the survivng French Navy remained loyal to France as the government was formed at Vichy and was destroyed at Mers el-Kebir by the British Navy.

Ach! I've jumbled my antecedents! It was the navy that was destroyed at Mers el-Kebir, not the French Government.
A true Freudian slip if ever there was one.

Mais si McCain l'indiquait, la plupart de "FReepers" que je connais prendra l'autre côté -- le côté de Saddam! (IOW, he is unjustifiably hated by the Bushbot establishment around here)...

I got a kick out of my local (Wyoming) radio announcer this morning. His comment on all of the hand-wringing over a freakin' snowstorm back east was , "What are they, French, or something?" Last week we got a foot and a half of snow. Schools didn't close and we didn't get any media attention. We put our vehicles into 4WD and went on with our lives.

So where are THOSE French now?
I think they eliminated that gene from the French alive today.
