BTW, I had to switch my DSL from DirectV, when they went out of business.

Earthlink offered the best deal, best modem and great service. I was down only a short time. I get 1.5 thruput all the time. No down times.

I have had real good luck with Mindspring/Earthlink also. No down time, good connection, but most importantly they have the nicest teck support on the web.

I installed NoAds last week. It's freeware and it seems to work. I have to add each popup as it, uh, pops up, but then it is zapped every time it reappears.

Popups really are a nuisance, just one more thing to put up with on the net these days. With spam, popups, viruses, fear of the RIAA cops, porno and pedophilia, it's no wonder the internet industry is in the toilet.

Did you ever think of unplugging the camera???? Nah, probably not, cause your post is only an addition with the intention of bashing...

Actually I did that eventually. But at the time, I wanted it when I wanted it. Since USB was not as common back then, the camera has a hookup with two cords and adaptors that let you insert it inline with the printer on the parallel port and the keyboard on it's port. Both must be connected for it to work. Kind of a pain to take it on and off, since you also have to disconnect and reconnect the printer and keyboard.

I couldn't have read a more unintelligent post if I went to an apple site...

Snarf!

Testy, testy! Do you work for earthlink?

I confess I don't use Word because of too many times in the past when "it DEVOURED ... my paper."

I like MS for the most part, so I don't know what you are trying to imply. I use WIN XP Home and have mostly been very happy. I use their Visual Studio, and their DDK. I like them. The only products of theirs that I avoid scrupulously are the Office applications and Outlook.

IMHO, If you are not running AdWare/SpyWare software. If you are not using a fire wall to block stuff coming in and out, especially cookies. If you are are not controlling DirectX. If you are not at least aware of port scans. If you are not aware of what is going into and out of your computer. Your computer may not yours, it could be mine. ISP's are supposed to supply access, not content. Beware of this brave new world!

Any body got a scoop on this Microsoft Passport thing.

Thanks, LowOil.

I do admit that the service works fairly efficiently, and I have enjoyed using their personal web page thing to upload pictures.

I will check out the AdSubtract site, thanks.

See you around.

I am using Earthlink dsl, works good, but I have sometimes thought they were not too customer friendly.

Pop ups seem to be gradually increasing, haven't felt I had to get rid of them yet, but am getting to that point.

I have 2 lines anyway, so dsl does not increase my costs.

Thanks for the info, hadn't heard of those ISP's yet.

My daughter goes to SU, likes it, she is even fine with the winter, even having grown up in Miami.

I got this. Other than some problems with my Netscape Email, it does a pretty good job.

Can anyone tell me how this is done in Netscape 7??

I have N7 but I didn't know it would do that, and Pop Up Stopper doesn't seem to work with N7.

Thanks!

You're looking at the wrong version. Try the one called "Pop-Up Stopper FREE Edition" at http://panicware.com/product_psfree.html

some of these have been fixed. but of course only microsoft releases software with bugs, right????

Well, it is listed as beta software, and it is free, and it does have a little bug in the upper right hand corner that you click on to report bugs to Apple, so it seems to me that most of us using Safari know that there will be some issues.

Safari is my main browser now, and it crashes a lot less than IE did on either platform. Netscape is, I think, out of the game. For OSX, the new Mozilla Navigator specifically designed for OSX seems to work well. Each of these programs has a popup blocker.

Generally, I think you're better off to use your system resources for attaching to the internet, as opposed to anything like MSN8, AOL, etc.

I live out in the country, where there aren't cable or DSL options, so for right now I'm stuck with dialup. I'm currently using MSN, but not the installed MSN package. I want to change ISP's, as MSN blocks my email programs from sending, and I don't like the "Hotmail" account you get from MSN, as it automatically attaches spam for Microsoft to the end of your emails. I don't mind for hotmail, Yahoo, or other free accounts, but when I'm paying a monthly fee for the email account, I'd like to be able to use my email program and not have advertisments attached to my messages.

I had been thinking about going to Earthlink, but I was wondering, are there any ISP dialup providers out there that Freeps would recommend?

Before switching to broadband, I had good luck with IVWNET, which can be had for $99 annual. You get 10 days to change your mind. Nationwide numbers, several email addresses, web pages, etc. Not a bad deal.

I'm trying pop-up stopper now. It makes some sites so slow that they were faster with the pop-ups. I suspect this is by design.
