Centralia, Pennsylvania, in 1962

The coal fields in Pennsylvania over by Scranton have been on fire forever. Saw them in 1950. No way exists to put out the fire.

Catastrophe bump. It's always something. I saw a one hour documentary on the fires in Centralia years ago.

It is all of these underground coal fires that are the problem!

One more reason coal bed methane development should progress full speed ahead.

Eliminate the fuel source for these fires and heat and cool for mankind at the same time....too logical I guess.

We have a nice Hot Springs due to an old coal fire that is still burning.

It was 32 below again this morning.

Damn that is cold, what was the wind chill?

Sorry it took so long to reply. I don't know what the wind chill was but it was at least 25 below again this morning. The breeze must be about 5-10 mph most of the time. Thankfully the wind doesn't blow much here in VT. At least not so's a Colorado boy would notice.

Great big gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
Mutilated monkey meat,
Chopped up little birdies' feet,
Great big gobs of greasy, grimy gopher guts,
And me, without a spoon.

How far are you from Mt Washington in New Hampshire?

I know they get incredible winds at the weather station there.

Well ... the Bible does say that the world will burn up ... and that Jesus will create a new heaven and a new earth.
