In 1945, probably 99.9% of the residents of Hiroshima had never directly taken part in any attack on Americans
That fact did not save them
We seem to have some semantic problems here: As above, there is NO difference between a fanatical Muslim and a plain old ordinary everyday garden-variety Muslim. One either believes that it is one's duty to seize and kill the infidel wheresoever the infidel is to be found, or one does not believe this. The presence or absence of that belief defines one's Muslimness.
As for evil, what other adjective would you nominate to describe an adult who has read, re-read, re-re-read, and spent hours [bordering on years] of introspective contemplation & analysis of a commandment to seize and kill the infidel wheresoever they are to be found, and has has concluded that "Yes, this is the religion I choose for myself, of my own free will, and I will do everything in my power to live by this religion for the remainder of my life"?
Seems to me like that's the precisely the sort of situation the adjective evil was invented to describe.
"Do not fall for hysteria and rumor," said Rep. Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.), a former CIA officer and chairman of the House intelligence committee who was given classified updates of the threat last night. "There is no justification, there's no more specificity to the threat" than there was Feb. 7, when federal officials raised the national threat level to orange, indicating a "high risk" of a terrorist strike.
That's where we differ. And I think we can differ and still be gentlemen (or ladies, in my case). If a Muslim is doing the studying, hated etc as you mentioned then of course he is an evil fanatic. Unfortunately many of them are, and have been over the course of history. I just posit the claim that here and there, are Muslims who are not hateful etc.
It's a question of semantics. A Muslim is required to believe that every word of the Koran is the perfect, immutable word of the supreme being, so that a Muslim is required to obey every word of the Koran [and every commandment therein, including the commandment to seize and kill the infidel wheresover the infidel is to be found].
You need to adopt a different word to describe the people you envision; they are not Muslims. I proposed a term above: MINOs [Muslims in Name Only]. The assertion on this thread seems to be that most of the people we mistakenly call "Muslims" are in fact MINOs. Personally, I'm dubious of this proposition; as above, Google on Taqija, or Al-Taqiyah, or lying to infidels [and make sure you set your Google Preferences to "Do not filter my search results"].
Finally, for all you people who think that Islam is just a stroll in the park [can't we join hands and sing Kumbaya?], would you kindly post an excerpt from Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, or Acts, where Jesus is quoted as instructing his followers to seize and kill any human being [even an infidel]?
And the same is true. Osama, if he is still turning oxygen into carbon dioxide, is running in fear like a Frenchman. He knows it, too.
I noticed the article in question in a very brief read at another site, so that's why I mentioned it - I hadn't had time to look into it further, I figured I'd get the skinny from other, informed freepers. I had no problem with Diddle E. Squat's commentary. You, however, had to drag in a three-month old conflict into this thread.
I was just agreeing with him that you should not believe everything you read as you seen to do quite often.
Once you have acquired my record on this site of debunking bogus media claims and researching stories on my own, then maybe you can criticize me in that regard. You talk big but don't do squat to back it up.
Don't be so candy bud. Get a backbone and use reliable sources and you will not be considered dubious.
Oh, you have such a big backbone that you gotta carry around an old conflict we had - and you lecture ME? I would suggest you in turn deal with issues such as learning the forum guidelines. Since you can't even handle that, I doubt you can do any heavy lifting here other than attacking people.
That you are.
A disoriented man caused a stir Tuesday when he entered FBI headquarters in Oklahoma City and spilled a soft drink on the floor of the lobby.By the time the situation was sorted out, the FBI office was awash in reporters, camera crews, firefighters and even a hazardous materials crew.
"The guy came in to furnish some information," Special Agent Jay Moeller said. "He wasn't all there. He had some sort of head trauma or something."
Realizing the man was in crisis, the FBI contacted his family and called for an ambulance to take him to Mercy Health Center.
Right about then, he spilled his soft drink on the lobby floor. Somehow the spilled drink turned into a report that the man was spraying a mysterious powder around the room -- something, Moeller said, that never happened.
"He dropped his Coke on the floor of the atrium where you come in," Moeller said. "HAZ-MAT, the fire department and an ambulance showed up for a spilled Coke."
The problem, of course, is that the economics of the situation are arranged to guarantee too many warnings. If something bad does happen, ambitious politicians opposed to whoever is in power will screech that not enough warnings were given in advance; so the ambitious politicians currently in power try to preempt those screechings by giving warnings now, however unhelpful they may be. The media likewise are destined to be useless, as they are rewarded for helping to goad the public into hysteria. More people feel that they have to watch CNN, listen to news/talk radio, etc., to see whether there is a new warning or a follow-through on the old one. A nervous viewer is an attentive viewer.Since the politicians and media evidently are going to be no help, it falls to us individually to learn to live with a little (indeed, very little) extra risk without distraction and anxiety. Unless a warning is specific enough to call for clear precautions, the sensible and patriotic thing is to ignore it.
