persons "forced to unload munitions or build bridges" were NOT soldiers, sailors or marines, but servants, whether slaves or free.
slaves could NOT be members of the forces as they were NOT free to take the oath of enlistment, though SOME did take up arms for the southland.
the veterans who joined the UCV were "free persons of colour" who were members of combat,combat support or combat service support units.
ONLY VETERANS of the CSA's military forces were UCV members. when the UCV formed, ALL CSA VETERANS were welcomed, regardless of color.

it came down to this: in the midst of a war for your freedom, you do what is NECESSARY to increase your chances of WINNING the war. what was necessary was using the available volunteers, regardless of religion, language spoken or race.

Of course not. Take those black confederate soldiers that you claim there were so many of and those former slaves that you claim were so loyal and then ensure that they are stripped of any sufferage and every right that you can take away. That's not hypocrisy at at all.
In Ohio, an 1807 law forced blacks to pay a $500 per person for a "freedom" certificate or leave the state.
In Virginia, an 1806 law forced freed slaves to leave the state or be sold back into slavery.
In Illinois, blacks had to pay $1000 to emmigrate into the state (1829).
In Louisiana (1814) and South Carolina (1820) and North Carolina (1826) were forbidden to emigrate in to the state at all.
Any runaway in the state could be sentenced by a justice of the peace to thirty-five lashes, and groups of three or more could be jailed and flogged.
In every southern state it was illegal for slaves to assemble in groups of any size. It was this law that Thomas Jackson fell afoul of in teaching his Sunday school class, not the law against teaching slaves to read. Jackson wasn't teaching anyone to read.
In other words, the Republicans had problems abiding by the Constitution, a 7-2 decision of the US Supreme Court, the citizenship acts of the country since it's founding, and their ratification agreements to uphold the Constitution? Who's the criminal here?
Correct me if I'm wrong but the Republican platform in the recent election declared it's opposition to abortion, in violation of a 7-2 decision of the U.S. Supreme Court.

in the southland, i know of NO segregated public schools, period end of story. can YOU name a single public school ANYWHERE in dixie that is segregated NOW?

also i could name THOUSANDS of country clubs, where my partner, who happens to be Jewish, is not welcome to play golf, even as a guest of a member; offhand i can't think of a SINGLE country club in dixie that forbids Jews on the premises.
face it, NS, today the north is the SEGREGATED area of the country AND perhaps it's time to send FREEDOM RIDERS from MS,AL,GA,LA & other southron states to DAMNYANKEELAND!

Ah yes, the pantented stand waite 'I saw it somewhere a while back' school of evidence. You never change.
Here is a link to a study done by Harvard. It shows that the country as a whole has a long way to go, but if you're looking for segregated schools you are just as likely to find them down south as you are up North.
you seem to think that i have time to go look up references for you personally, rather than YOU going to do your own research.every time i have gone to the trouble to footnote my sources, the damnyankees & scalawags have said that the source was southern biased, even when the source was from the US ARCHIVES!
nonetheless the NORTH's schools in the 21st century are STILL mostly segregated while there are NO segregated public schools in the southland.
