I've got jobs --more than I really want or need even ----2 jobs. What I really can't stand is the very high taxes we're having to pay for the free medical care and education costs. It seems ridiculous that we're letting in so many people who are nothing but dependent ---try going to a grocery store here and see the level of food stamp and WIC use. Many of the immigrants aren't coming to work at all but to get in on the handouts. Welfare is extremely high here ---half the children are born into Medicaid. There is NO benefit to that kind of immigration because it only increases our welfare class ---it doesn't save our ecoomy ---in fact Texas is facing a very high budget deficit -- not too far behind California ---another state with high immigration and high state budget deficits.

Like I said, we did not replace ourselves at a rate to support the entitlements that are promised. So the government has three options, go bankrupt, cut entitlements, or allow immigration.

"You may wish to file a complaint with the most insidious, cruel and heartless federal agency, that will not let go of
a target, not even if they are dead."

The enemy of our enemy is our friend? Never thought the IRS would come in handy, but you have a point there.

I choose options 1 and 2!

Always good to wash out the problems, you know.

Many of these unwed teen mothers coming over from Mexico who can't speak a word of English and never made it past the 3rd grade will not be raising kids who can support our Social Security system or be anything but welfare mothers themselves by the time they're 14. This area also happens to have the highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation and many of those become part of a permanent welfare class that goes on for generations. They can't build government housing projects fast enough. I don't see any benefit in that kind of immigration. We'll never be able to retire because we'll be supporting the many new welfare cases and free medical care for the newcomers.

Who says we're not allowing immigration? We *allow* more legal immigration than any other nation. But we have a right to control our own borders. Illegals are an affront to the legal immigrants who did it the legal, and hard, way. I don't want those immigrants who flout the law, and neither should US employers.

I agree with that statement but it's not the politically correct one so we are stuck with option #3.

Here's an example of a little couple that lives near me ---they came when they were 15 --apparently married in Mexico, baby on the way, obtained a visitor visa, moved in with an aunt. Two years later they are still living there ---the couple is 17 now, the baby is about a year old. Not one has yet worked a day in their live, not one speaks any English or has bothered to get an education that means anything in this country. They don't look like they'll be giving up the WIC or welfare and whatever else they're "entitled" to ---soon it will be free babysitting with Head Start. I'm sure there will be plenty more babies for us to pay for.

Welfare is limited to 5 years so they must be living off the old womans SS payments, which wouldn't be much.

The aunt --also from Mexico does get SSI and welfare for her 3 kids. There's a live-in boyfriend of the aunt who does work but his income isn't included because it's not reported. I think eventually the young couple will get SSI or something. Many people on SSI just get that instead of what is called welfare but we're supporting them one way or another. I don't see any benefits from this kind of immigration.

Working immigrants are easier to like ---but even still what is the advantage of driving wages down and putting Americans out of work when we end up having to give them food stamps, Medicaid, and Earned Income tax welfare, etc because their wages are too low? Around here any family which is making $5.15 an hour still qualifies for many government programs ---so how does that help?

Illegal aliens are not something that is acceptable nor is the issue something that is to be mixed up with the needs of this war. In addition, it should be noted that this issue is a recent one. Our past wars took place in circumstances very different when there was no concern about aliens illegal or otherwise some of whom were drafted into the Union army upon arrival. In fact, people wandered back and forth across the border with Mexico at will with little concern by anyone until the last 50 yrs. And now the presence of these people is irrelevent to the issue of the war. Your comment is much like someone saying they like apples and another says "Yeah, but oranges taste bad."

The subject of the thread was concerned about the effects of illegals but had nothing to do with the war. Illegals can't fight it. There are many disgraces in this society and few have anything to do with the war.

Or national security issues are not with the poor, dumbf*cks from Mexico but with aliens from the Middle East, the RATS and American converts to Islame. I would trade any of them for Mexicans any day.

From your link:

The government study (INS Report on the Legalized Alien Population, M-375, March 1992) found that out of the amnestied illegal alien population: 70 percent were from Mexico.

These numbers are from a report that is 4 years older that the one I quoted AND, they are numbers from the “amnesty in the late 1980s”. In other words, 70% of the illegal aliens that got amnesty were from Mexico. That does not mean that 70% of the illegal aliens in this country today are from Mexico.

You can do better than that.

Here’s a better link from FAIR.

This one uses numbers form the Census Bureau and INS. The CB estimates that 44% of illegal aliens (3,871,912 of a total 8,705,421) are from Mexico, while the INS numbers are from the same report you quoted earlier (69%). If you want to split the difference, we get 57%. It still looks like a flip of the coin.

If you know, for a fact (not a hunch or through the grapevine) that they employ illegal aliens, than there is a lot you can do. Call the INS, IRS, and a good lawyer.
