Italy, Spain, Portugal, Canada, Great Britain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, parts of Australia and Germany. The list is certainly growing.

Let me predict how this thread will go:

A couple of anti-WOD folks, (some dopers, some not) will drop by and post the same things they have already posted on 456,899,080 other pot related threads. Then, some pro-WOD folks will post something about how terrible this is and the people in charge should be charged with child abuse, or whatever. Then a doper will post how pot has no harmful effects whatsoever. An anti-doper will post a study that disputes that. The doper will then find the DEA in the footnotes and say the study is discredited and obviously false. The anti-doper will call the doper a "doper." The doper will call the anti-doper a "statist."

Someone will ping the WOD list. Then the anti-WOD people (the same ones who post on every pot thread) will descend like locusts and post the same things they have posted on every other dope thread since James Polk was President.

They will shout down everyone who disagrees with them. The terms "What's your point?" and "Have a study to back that up?" will be used liberally. Finally, the pro-WOD folks will grow weary of the stridence of the ant-WOD crowd and leave. The anti-WOD crowd will post a few self-congratulatory notes and then migrate to the next WOD ping which appears like the Bat Signal in their "My Comments" list.

Under Italian law, selling marijuana is a crime, but possession for personal use is not.

Best possible world for dealers of anything, and those whom they pay off. Guarantees high price and lots of consumers. Not to mention the incredible exercise of unintegrated values in a thing being legal to use but illegal to sell.

A very accurate description of WOD threads! When I lived in Italy in the 70s, they were pretty strict about drugs. I wonder what happened?

Pretty much. But for as much as FR affects conservative thought, the thread will be there for all interested parties, and lurkers can read the arguments and make up their mind either way. One of these days, rethinking the W.o.D. is bound to creep into actual policy.

Agreed. It's about time it came up in some rational, mainstream debate. But that has little or nothing to do with the posted story.

Right. Personally, I'd be opposed to 17-year-old kids carrying around this kind of load, or any load, but hey, it's Italy, not America. They've got a completely different culture over there.

The marijuana was for personal use since the 17-year-old student planned to share it with two fellow students and a teacher, the appeals court judge said.

40 joints for two students and a teacher.

Talk about being stoned.

I'm sure the teacher would be able to function on this field trip. I mean it's ONLY 40 joints.

Boy, do you have these threads pegged, or what.
Even though it IS a very good description of what happens, there are some distinct posts on every one of these threads that seperates them from each other.

Ahem... That would be 40 joints between 3 students and a teacher.

Nice. I knew it the moment I read it. A more than adequate replacement for the Jokeman, and when Adam Corolla and Jimmy Kimmel stop by, the show achieves near-perfection.

Then a doper will post how pot has no harmful effects whatsoever.

Provide evidence that anyone has ever posted that pot has no harmful effects whatsoever.

The terms "What's your point?" and "Have a study to back that up?" will be used liberally.

And rightly so, as off-point rants and baseless claims are the WODdies' stock in trade.
