Then the memo shouldn't be a problem and you can relax.

You're gonna eat those words in that post from now to kingdom come.
Back off, Todd, and relax and get a good night's sleep. The truth is out there. Those fine seven people perished and we're going to find out why.
To: Jael
If you have a point then make it. I have... I will try this one: After several posts by you about your hurt feelings and opinions about other posters, I made one telling you to stop badmouthing people without pinging them. It is adolescent behavior. But who the hell cares what I think?
To: Jael
Then the memo shouldn't be a problem and you can relax. And you can stop saying that they lied already, before they even started coming to conclusions. Those people have value too. And I am not going to take part in the careless destroying of people on a whim. I need real reasons.

MICHAEL KOSTELNIK: That is actually the first I have heard of that memo. The best and brightest engineers we have who helped build and design that system looked carefully at all the analysis and the information we had at this time and made a determination this was not a safety or flight issue.
NASA officials are now trying to explain the memo while they're also facing allegations that the Agency removed five members of its safety review panel, in a bid to suppress their criticism.
From Houston, John Shovelan reports.
JOHN SHOVELAN: Just two days before the space shuttle Columbia disintegrated a team of NASA engineers sent an internal memo which discussed possible problems on re-entry for the Orbiter.
The memo estimated there was a high probability heat shielding tiles beneath the left wing had suffered a gash about 22 centimetres wide and about eighty centimetres long during the launch.

Hurt feelings?
Look, just let it go and stop wagging the dog.
I don't know you, don't care to, I am here to discuss issues, not feelings. Thanks.

I didn't say they lied.
Seven people who died are important to me, and that is what's real. If a careless choice led to their death, then it will come out, just like it did with Challenger.
If you have a problem with the truth, then please, go have your problem elsewhere.

It might be helpful if TLBS would be less a bot. He's come around these past few months.

Ok, I will give you a summarization. I want to thank you for translating that news article from Hebrew to English. That is a very valuable talent you provided to this thread.

His first sentence has the answer to the question. It says the issues were discussed, and a conclusion was reached. In hindsight, they will likely decide the conclusion they reached was wrong on the possible severity of the damage, but that alone does not make it careless. And, we don't know that they could have changed the outcome no matter what. The thing was already flyin'. Given the situation they had, and the firm information they had, they didn't have a lot of options.
And we could play Clinton word games. but "lied" and "less than honest answers" are the same accusation.

Why are you bringing Clinton up, still a big fan of his or something?

You said the word. After seeing that video over and over again, it looks and seems to act like ice, to me, not any kind of foam I've ever seen.

No, it doesn't smear our brave space explorers one bit to try to sort out information to get to the bottom of this tragedy. Mistakes have been made and it isn't wrong to try to find out who made them or what went wrong.
It seems fairly obvious that the tiles were damaged by the collision with the foam. The fact that there were no previous fatalities upon reentry may serve as a grounds for complacency. Not gross complacency, but NASA gambled, perhaps rightly so, that the shuttle would probably reenter without a glitch, as all of the orbiters had done in the past.
It seems clear at this point that the camera-equipped mechanical arm, nor the SS docking equipment should have been left behind.

Were you referring to me when you posted this, Jael?
On another thread you sent me a poem - as a response to something I said about my grandfather's funeral - being a fire chief.
I CERTAINLY did NOT mean to make it sound as if I was making the Columbia Tragedy all about ME!!
I have been a member here on FR for over 4 years - I haven't been an active poster lately - but wouldn't you know it - as soon as I begin posting again - something like this happens. I didn't mean to make it sound as if I was trying to draw attention to myself. That's the LAST thing I wanted to do. I WILL say that many of the freepers here - when my grandfather died - gave me wonderful support and prayers on some threads - and quite frankly - those prayers meant the world to me.
Anyway - I digress - I am just puzzled by why you sent me that poem - and then went on to post something like this - which sounded as if you were referring to me.
I suppose I wil go back into lurkermode again - I am so sorry that you felt that I was trying to get a COMFORT post from you. I didn't ask you to send me anything.
I'm sorry. This is the last you will hear from me.
