You know, it also wouldn't hurt to do a whois on this company. If they are based in the US, fire off an e-mail to the state AG telling them this crap is being installed without your permission and messing up your computer.

There is another company that did something similiar that is getting sued by disgruntled internet users as we speak.

I was about to say, all you have to do is unregister the .dll files then reboot and delete. Spybot will do all that. It can run on startup before any .dlls are loaded.

I filed a complaint with the Internet Fraud Complaint Center. It sure wouldn't hurt for others to do the same. I may be a rube for believing that they will do something, but if enough people file, then maybe.

Don't post their web address here, or anywhere! They want info off your computer, to sell it to other disreputable companies, like online casinos, and who knows what else!

Oh yes, of couse I discovered this after I made the last post, but the lop.com link on that page under the heading "resources" tells in detail all you need to know about how the creeps that invaded your computer were thinking when they designed and launched the software that zotted you.

(xupiter mentioned near the end because they are much like lop.com)

In Norton, to block certain outbound spyware data, go to the screen where you set the permissions for each application to access the internet and double click the application in question. Then click on the customize radio button and click OK. In the window that opens, click ADD. You will want to *BLOCK* access *TO* *ONLY COMPUTERS* on the list and then identify the offending site(s) in the list. Block both TCP and UDP unless you know that you want to allow one or the other. Also, block all ports. Then move the newly created rule to the top of the list.

To determine the particular computers that a spyware app is sending to, go to the sites that I directed you to in my earlier post. One of them should tell you where each app is trying to send your data. All you need to do is create a rule in Norton for each app, identifying those computers.

I bookmarked it. I'm a whole lot wiser, after all the good advise posted here. One poster however, ( #85 removed by moderator), actually posted a link to Xupitor, for their uninstall program.

Going to a spyware company and asking them for help seems like the same thing as a drug addict going to a crack dealer and asking for help to get clean!

I agree. My dealings with friend's computers infested with Lop.Com was no fun to clean out. I had noticed the offering of the uninstall after I had examined the Lop site - on a library computer to be safe - and didn'teven think to use it. I read the copy they had on their page about who they are and what they offer and you can read between the lines and see how little they think of the "marks" they fleece.

It's the green light means go, red stop, yellow means floor it mentality. If they get a foot in the door of your machine, they are just going to be sneakier about how they access it. They are ruthless and without ethics.

The analogy I heard that I liked about using their uninstall was that using it was like asking the robber who shot you if you could use his cell phone to call 911.

Lop.com I am told has done things like putting the agreement to let them lobotomize another victim's computer in the line of fire for a crack download on some of those sites that offer shareware and standard commercial software. People think they are getting one thing, and op gets slipped in to install parasiteware.

Which should be a lesson for those who ignore the fact they are supporting sites funded by offering deals on pornography. The cracks and other downloads are the carrot to bring suckers in to get them interested in this product that is of no value at all, to say the least.

Xupitor and Lop are sites that are gateways to the same sort of poison. Par for the course for the dens of con artists and rip-off artists that those sites are.

I'm glad your learning cure wasn't too expensive or terminally frustrating. I went through the same process, and I get very touchy if I even get a knock on my firewall anymore. I even unpug the phoneline when I'm not there because my machine is in always on mode. Good luck and nice meeting you.
