The studios invested a lot of money in Clooney, trying him in various movies and projects. Nothing worked until, "Three Kings", "A Perfect Storm" and "O Brother, Where art Thou". Those movies didn't have to have an important lead for the movies to work.
Like another Freeper wrote, "I"m look forward to Clooney occupying a "Hollywood Square" soon".

The problem with people like Clooney is that when they get that rich and famous, nobody says "no" to them. Nobody has the balls to tell them they are acting like fools. If everybody around you tells you how wonderful you are, sooner or later, unfortunately, you're going to believe it.

Wasn't Rosemary Clooney part of the JFK pack. There was something about her and JFK. Anyone know? I'll try looking it up.

Anyone else see the dual standard? A half (not a full) touche. Laut is an extremely vindictive person (remember how he acted when he "won" the recent senate race and trash talked Forrester at his victory party).
Still, you are right, we should not take joy in his suffering.

This is what I've found, so far:
Triumph and disaster followed hard upon each other as Clooney entered middle age. At one point she was mingling with JFK and his intimates at the new Camelot. A few years later, as she tried to come to terms with divorce and tranquilliser addiction, she went on the road to campaign for her friend, Robert Kennedy. She was present at the Ambassadors Hotel when he was assassinated in 1968. A nervous breakdown followed. Clooney was admitted to psychiatric hospital and began a long and painful journey through therapy.

I have been a huge Clooney fan for many many years. Even when he seemed to act strange about the Red Cross, I was still a faithful fan. But after hearing his remarks about the President, I was very put off. Then after his callous remarks about Charlton Heston, well, that did it. I will never watch an interview, see a movie he is in or a tv appearance by the man ever again.

I was never a huge fan, but thought that he had done some entertaining work. Like you, I've now put him on my list (to join Oliver Stone). My general rule of thumb - do nothing that will put money into his pockets again... (no movies, no movie rentals, etc, etc)

The media firestorm would have been ferocious; fear and loathing would have consumed newsrooms everywhere. He insulted probably 40-50% of possible movie viewers for his movies. They'll make up their minds with box office dollars. I would like nothing more than to have Clooney's career follow Alec Baldwin's into obscurity.

He once referred to George Foreman as a "monkey" because Foreman had darker skin. Nice guy, eh? Real nice. I don't recall the Foreman crack. I know he taunted Joe Frazier all the time about looking like a "gorilla". So here we have a real unifier, all right, someone the press adores. He sows not only division between the races, but within his own race as well (e.g., I have lighter skin than you, I'm "prettier" than you, etc.). I'm sorry for Ali's illness in later life, but he sure wasn't all that much of a healer in his younger years. I wonder of Sheryl Crow might say something about "karmic retribution" (or whatever gobbledygook she was pushing) in this case?

I remember there used to be a Muhammed Ali cartoon, where Ali was sort of a super-hero.
From what I remember, Ali would trash talk the bad guys before beating them up.

When asked by Smith if the remark went over the line, Clooney replied: "I don't care... Egotistical and self-absorbed liberals never do. They only care about themselves and advancing an agenda. They'll tolerate you if you agree with them but will tell you to go to h*ll if you don't.

clooney makes fun of a man who suffers from altzhimers because he stands up for the right to self defense and self determination. clooney, who supposedly is mentally sound, believes individuals should be at the mercy of the stronger. the sad part is he thinks he's a reasonable thinker....
here is my favorite george clooney joke... about 30 years in the future....
george clooney's doctor says, mr clooney i have some troubling news, you have cancer and are suffering from altzhimers,
whereas clooney responds:
cheer up doc, it could be worse, atleast i don't have cancer...

Why do opinion writers always start out saying "...although a talented, wonderful, brilliant actor..." when they obviously don't know what they are talking about! The art of acting is a highly skilled performance art that takes years to master. Great actors rarely have time to visit the North Vietnamese, march on Washington or make stupid comments about Charlton Heston. Jane Fonda gave one or two good performances over 30 years ago and has been coasting ever since, Alec Baldwin was never anything more than a serviceable leading man, and I can't begin to understand Clooney's career!
Until pundits learn how to discern acting values, I wish they'd stop commenting on them. Grrrrrr!

Anyone else see the dual standard? Actually, no. Out of all the posts on that thread, maybe 2 were somewhat less than nice, but none were "mean-spirited", many had actually felt sorry for him. Nice try but no dice. There is a HUGE difference between a democrat and a FR Conservative. Go stir the pot somewhere else.

I have been suggesting that California put a sin tax on movie tickets to go aong with all the other sin taxes, from SUVs to fattening fast food that the Hollywood celebrities are supporting. We could claim that the tax was "for the children" to make up for all the irreparable harm that Hollywood has done to their young minds.

Wow. I had previously tended to give clowns like Clooney a pass when they ventured into politics. A lot of actors tend to pop their heads up, make idiots of themselves, then jump into their limos and go back to their gated homes. But not this time.
George Clooney is a scumbag and I will make it a point to stay away from anything that the scumbag appears in. Buh-bye George, you filthy weasel.
To: PLOM...NOT!
There's no stirring the pot here, nor is there a need to get snippy. I was just stating my perception of the contrast between the overall tone of the two threads. If you don't see what I see, it's not my job to convince you otherwise.
