Buddy, you are so over the top it's scary.

He sure as heck is, isn't he? Half the people who have suddenly decided Serena is the leading communist in the country because of a photo-op "ooops" Drudgster put up to get hits are sounding...well, about as intelligent as the anti-war protesters. And sheesh, I mean, can't we spend our time going after the real jackoffs? The people who are REALLY out there badmouthing the country? Serena screwed up and accidentally sat on the flag. OH MY GOD, SAVE US ALL, THE SKY IS FALLING! I mean, do I need to point out that the proper way of disposing the flag is...to BURN IT? The *only* proper way. This is like some kind of bizarre Miss Manners thread on flaq etiquette that's turned nasty. :-)

Save your anger for the Baldwins and the Sorkins and the Sheens and...the rest of Hollywood...and the psuedo-intellectual elitists at our universities...I mean, what exactly would taking Serena down by her GROSS, horrid travesty do to advance the cause of liberty in the world?

Nothing.

And by whining about stuff like this, you actively distract from truly nasty evil people out there who support rotten, deadly regimes. SAVE YOUR VENOM FOR THEM. This is a waste of time. And worse yet, you're just making yourselves sound silly, and while conservatives have better senses of humor than liberals by a long shot, this kind of silly is just...really detrimental to conservatives.

Don't you guys have something BETTER to get angry about? There's plenty out there, and Serena, I think, ranks kinda AT THE BOTTOM, ya idjits. :-)

P.S. Zarf, I'd like to say -- you DON'T need any damn lectures on patriotism. You're a patriot. This thread has proven it. ;-)

Well same photo was in the Cincinnati Enquirer...it was a real photo. She shouldn't sit on USA flag, period.

Yeah it's from BSNN.net, the BS News Network, the site for political humor, news parody, and the occasional blip of stunning insight.

ALL of them?? That will shatter some dreams around here :snicker:

Is "shatter" the right word,or would "enhance" be a better choice?

EggsAckley wrote I seem to recall some time back when it was revealed that they are Republicans.

And my answers are; (1) Serena and Venus Williams might have jumped on the Republican bandwagon, but after posing in several different positions sitting on the U.S. flag, and standing near the U.S. flag that is dragging in the dirt, Serena is clearly as dumb as a boot — but that doesn't disqualify her; and (2) I guess Serena Williams never heard of Sergeant William Carney, MOH.

Serena Williams, wealthy, gifted, celebrity athlete sits on U.S. flag and William Carney, emancipated slave and humble severely wounded soldier, puts his life on the line for the flag and refuses to let it touch the ground. Quite a comparison of values. I've picked my favorite. How about you?

Serena Williams was sailing along with four straight Grand Slam wins when she sat on the American flag - not once, but in numerous poses while she showed off her latest trophys after defeating her sister Venus in the Australian Open Tennis Tournament (January 25, 2003) - Not only did Serena sit on the U.S. flag, she ignored the fact that it was dragged across dirt, pavement and grass, next to a river - there are about 11 different photos of this, taken by about 3-4 photographers from AP and Reuters - the flags of Australia, Great Britain and France also were allowed to touch the ground - I believe it is now Black History Month in the U.S. - and people might be remembering the first African American Medal of Honor winner, William Carney - that is Civil War hero William Carney of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, (a brave black regiment) — although severely wounded, Carney snatched the flag from a fallen soldier, ran through a volley of bullets, and delivered it to his regiment. As he fell to the ground Sergeant Carney cried out, "Boys, the old flag never touched the ground!"

I believe that Sgt. Carney's heroic deed was depicted in the movie "Glory".

I was shocked to see the photos of Serena sitting on the American flag. With Serena's and Venus's father always hovering in the background of their careers, I took it for granted they had good raising. I don't know where Serena's father was all through this disgusting photo sequence, but he should shoulder some blame for it. The Australian Open Tournament organizers and press photographers are not blameless either.

isthisnickcool wrote So? We are the believe that this young lady placed those flags there then sat down? C'mon! This was obviously a "photo op" setup by someone ans THEY didn't know how to handle the flag properly.

Drudge is so shrill sometimes.

I agree that Serena didn't dream up the four flags background for the photo shoot. But if she was asked to sit on the American flag, she could have refused. Furthermore, there are at least 11 published photos of Serena either sitting on the American flag that is laying on the ground, or standing near the same American flag that is laying on the ground.

Serena Williams had ample time and opportunity to stop the photographers and demand that the flags backgrounds be rearranged, but she did not. I don't know the reasons — is Serena Williams just ignorant, or does she really hold the flag in contempt?

In my opinion, Serena Williams deserves to be savagely hammered for this, and I'll help out — but, the U.S. tennis professionals, the photographers and tournament organizers that probably set up the flags background should be hammered too.

I agree with Drudge on this one.
