Now, there is a near miss...
North of Guayaquil, ATC clear us to 320.(going north)
Big A,Clear to three two oh...
Hum, they say, Big Beaner(going south),
AND YOU, LEVEL OFF AT 330,
Big Beaner....grumble, grumble....
So, we level off at 320....
(The rest happenned within one second)
Big Beaner landing lights looked suddenly like the sun....
He passed us by close enough to see faces in the windows,
this at 1000 knots closing speed....
Seem Big Beaner never levelled off....

I told my main CFI who was retired military with about 13,000 hours and one helluva guy about what I considered a near miss over a highly populated area in North Dallas, that it had scared the clinton out of me.
He said something about "Do you know how hard it is to have a mid-air"?
Our little airport ene of Dallas is about 20NM of another one that has an NDB approach.
It wasn't a month later that a pilot from our F46 was doing approaches, and collided with a CFI and 62 year old student pilot. I flew over the wreckage and saw a few silver pieces here and there and a large burned area
Have to admit that I got my certificate when I was 57, and the combination of what I thought was a near miss got me all hillaried up. Never could quite get there for the Instrument rating.
Like Paul Harvey says, now you have the rest of the story.
