So I came up with the one presented

You probably should have read the articles before you so deftly crafted your misleading title. Nowhere in them did it mention that the California Board of Education had mandated anti-war classes. I do think the articles that you posted were relevant, but you shouldn't let your obvious anti-California sentiment depict things as worse than they are.

Seeing as the Mods changed the title, I guess I was right.

Teacher Betty Olson-Jones said the students came up with the idea on their own.

Right! Just like Betty Olson-Jones came up with the idea of hyphenating he last name on her own.

You couldn't be more right.

The fifth-graders showed they understood that the United States once supported Iraq militarily.

"We think it's strange to go to war with a country you taught war to," student Emma Styles-Swaim said. "We think it's strange because, well, it's weird."

Because 10 and 11 year olds have an intimate understanding of the Iran-Iraq conflict on their own. [/sarcasm]

The Oakland Unified School District is $ 100 million in debt and is begging the State for money. It will be taken over by the State within the next few months. 40 % of the "students" that enter 9th grade do not graduate from High School. Several years ago, some of the school board memebers were caught stealing computers that were to go to the classrooms. The District is in complete freefall and the teachers want to lecture W on Iraq.

"...obvious anti-California sentiment..."

I lived in CA for quite a while. I spent five years in Ridgecrest designing stuff I can't talk about; I lived in San Luis Obispo, and also lived in Auburn (nicest place on the earth - love that orange sky), Half Moon Bay, yep...used to rent a room above the spaghetti resturant there..., Stockton...not a nice place...and Chico...Hope you like Ice Cream...

You are jumping to conclusions. I never said anything bad about CA. If I could afford to live there I might still be there. - That is, If I could also speak Spanish.

A teach-in that describes how to survive on the street would be more appropriate. 113 murders in Oakland last year.

Well, the world of war is sometimes weird Emma Styles-Swain. So is the world of Oakland, CA (really another planet), as far as I'm concerned.

Now fifth grade girls have hyphenated names. What is with these hyphenated names? Is it a West Coast phenomonen? Perhaps the mothers aren't married to the fathers, so they incorporate each parent's name?

A teach-in on the proper use of the English language would be more appropriate.
