What about lemon juice? Not in the outhouse -- on the linens, I mean. HAHAHA. I'm going to bed on that note. Nite!

I inheritted the family linens ( mygrandmother's trusseau linens ... table clothes, napkins, sheets, and pillowcases, all hand made and embroidered by her mother and two Aunts ) and believe me, they yellow with age. Old stains, that professional laudries had removed ( or it looked as though they had ) 1/2 a century before, reappeared. It may not be rust; but, no matter what it is, do try IRON OUT ... carefully. :-)

I'm glad that I could help.

Yes. Logging off is not necessarily a bad idea, after the way THIS thread has gone. Sweet dreams!

I bought some stuff called Mrs. Stewart's Bluing, on the advice of a friend.....and tried it on some YELLOW pillowcases that I'd bought at a thrift store. It took a LOT of soakings....but they're white as can be. She warned me to NOT get the stuff on your hands cuz it stays there, blue, for a looooooong time.

I'll just start working on the other "rust" stains, starting with the Mrs. S. stuff, then move on to what you recommended....or the other way around. I just hate to ruin these since they ARE family things.

You're thinking of CLR and that is NOT for fabrics.

IRON OUT is the actual name of the product, which DOES work on fabrics and other stuff too.

Even with THE best water filter system one can buy, I still have some problems with iron in my well water. I buy EVERY product on the market, that claims to remove its nasty tendencies. Just ask me; I'm a walking, talking encyclopedia on this stuff and know, for certain, what works and what doesn't. :-)

"I think it is way past time that we make a pact to NOT RESPOND to any and all malcontents and/or spammers. "

I think vigorous debate is most often a good thing, even angry debate can be draining to you, but helpful to those that read but don't write. I know I lurked for a long time before engaging in debate.

People with strong opinions take issues personally and I don't think that is a bad thing.

Ingnoring misinformation and outright lies is not a very good persuading technique. Eventually the lies become accepted as truth. Keeping your calm, and logically refuting their assertions is much better strategery. Take a break if you need to, someone else will step in for you.

I totally agree with that statement.

Well, I'm not all that good at that part. :-)

Bluing won't work on rust ! It's a VERY old product and yes, it WILL stain your hands blue and takes far too long.

My grandmother was married in 1916 and I've used CLOROX and IRON OUT ( not at the same time and fully rinse, several times, the items, if you have used CLOROX on them and now use the IRON OUT, or they'll turn pinkish brown ! ) on her fine linens. Both have worked well AND taken the yellow out. After washing & ironing, wrap the linnens in acid free tissue paper, or just put them away. The yellow WILL return in 5 years or so, if not used / wrapped.

Just ask me about anything like this...I'm far better than Martha. LOL

And if people don't like it, they can go to court and appeal to the judges he picked.

Or, perhaps, go pound salt!

Excellent post, and thanks for the ping, Ohio!
