'You apparently are a slow learner...' 'whenever we say "American made car" we get into trouble...'
'Man I don't know about you but, I'm sick of PC speak...'
while you ponder that, take a look at this and this.
good luck with your search!

How about a Radio, Airbags, and Wipers with it?

I'll keep this one in mind as a fall back.

I am about your size (or bigger) and I thoroughly enjoy the Ford Crown Victoria. Body-on-frame construction, reasonable fuel economy, space out the wazoo, comfort like a sofa on wheels and virtual indestructibility.
The 2001+ models have a more powerful engine (235 hp), which could be tweaked up to about 260hp with a few dollars. Tough to beat.

Why would you want to risk driving something built by members of the UAW?

Well someone once told me Ford spelled backwards means "Driver Returns On Foot"

Aw, nevermind about the Crown Vic, it's made in Canada.

Well someone once told me Ford spelled backwards means "Driver Returns On Foot" Once I heard that "Ford" stood for "F**ked-Over Rebuilt Dodge", but I don't think that's true. ;)

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, my favorite, but, um, if you need a lot of room in the driver's seat, then it might be a tight fit! Take one for a test drive anyway, though. Fun car, and I actually get about a couple miles more to the gallon than the Hummer...

And an article at edmunds about the model, with links to used prices for all cars.

Trueblackman, American cars are a sad story. My son is a mechanic (real mechanic, not parts replacer!) and says Firebirds can be really nice cars, but be careful - they can be VERY expensive to maintain. A cap and rotor tuneup can be $1000 on a 5.7l engine! Spark plugs are expensive also - while they only cost about $5 each, you have to shift the engine and exhaust around - labor can be prohibitive.
I would suggest getting a Honda prelude or Toyota MR2,used. Many "American" cars are built out of country. Many foreign cars are built in the US, you can tell by the VIN number. First number is 1 for US, 2 is for Canada, 3 is for Mexico, J is for Japan, K for Korea. It is the first number on the vin number.

I hear that this is the last year of production for F-bodies, a Firebird will have excellent resale value if that's the case.
I love those Ram-Air TA's

Thanks for that major piece of advice I want something I can drive and pay for not pay and pay again. Bye Bye Firebird!!!

Get your self another Honda. Over 200,000 on your last one. Dont even think about buying a GMFordDodge. I own a '98 Toyota Tacoma 4WD 90000 miles and never had any probs, I also have a '01 Toyota Corolla it also runs great. Both cars are assembled in the U.S. Honda is assembled here too.
