BTW, "hotdog" (can't say that without smiling) Mr. D. is a former licensed pilot and has been trying to get me to take lessons so I will enjoy the experience (of small planes) rather than shake in my boots. Have also gotton some encouragement for Aeronaut and MamaBear. Any comments from you???

I hope you would enjoy taking some lessons!

Make sure your instructor knows and appreciates your goal. If you intend to only take a few lessons to better get ahold of your nerves, make sure they know that. Otherwise, your instructor may put you into a curriculum better suited for someone looking to become a licensed or professional pilot.

If you don't like your instructor, change sooner rather than later. It is important that you and your intructor click well together. Not all the nice people in the world are good teachers, and not all the good teachers are extraordinarily nice! Find a person that speaks your language.

Who knows! If you end up end up liking it, you may want to get serious about it! - But you don't have to start out that way. Start out having a good time. The regulations, weather, communications, navigation and are all things that you would need to take seriously if the bug really grabbed you enough to want a license. It is a very homework-intensive hobby.

But for now, find an instructor who will let you play for a few hours, do a little stick and rudder flying, and spend some time looking at the scenery.
