The smoke nazis
Lets get the record straight here Tacis, You are the SMOKE NAZI! You are the one attempting to tell my local hangout that he can't let all his regulars and smokers take part in our own pleasures regardless of the fact you will never, ever be in this part of our country!@
To: Tacis
He runs a public place and if I am in it, I don't want to be forced to suffer the by-product of some other customer's personal weakness or stupidityYou are so F&%$&#@ ignorant regarding private/public issues! By your own admission should you ever enter my house then I am obligated to bow down to you and extinguish my cigarette. I pray that that should one day come to pass.....
So what you are saying is that when you pass by Ditka's place, you happen to stick your head in the door and view people smoking, then they should immediately extinguish them because you decide to walk in. All Hail Tacis!!!!
To: Tax-chick
Gracious! I didn't mean to be nasty, just ... middle of the road? Middle of the road sitters will get run over by both north and southbound traffic. Either sit on the north or sit on the south side, that way you will only get run over half as often. The other alternative is to get off the road completely and hide in the woods.......
To: Dimensio
What are Ditka's credentials? Where is his research?
He has no credentials, he cites no research and doesn't make any claim that he does so who the F&%$& cares except you? Its his restaurant!!!

I think I like you, zcat, even though you're picking on me for seeing both sides of an issue :-). For the record, I should have said, "If he wants MY business, he should have a no-smoking section," but that's just Free Enterprise, don'tcha know. I have six kids, so you probably don't want my family in a place you'd visit, anyway ...
I love cats (my Agnes is 15), and booze (in moderation), and Central America, and guns, and the American military. Maybe I'll show up in your bar someday, if I can ever get a babysitter.
Cuba Libre! (If Cuba was free, we could get some good rum at a decent price, even in Oklahoma!)

Surprised to see how many Freepers pimp death.Asinine comment.
But typical.
So. Handgun Control gets control of a bunch of taxpayer money to use as they wish. They believe you gun fanatics "pimp death," particularly the deaths of children and their "studies" prove it time and time again. Pet politicians like Henry Waxman hold hearings. They demonize, ostracize and punish you with oppressive taxes. They propagandize the public with their millions of dollars and manage to pass a "no guns, no time, no place" law.
Welcome to the world you've created.

...I don't believe you....

It means exactly what it says.
There is no no need to try to parse my words.
I don't believe that your cousin died of cancer caused by second hand smoke.
There is nothing "odd" about this statement.
There is, however, something odd about taking an assumption and proclaiming it to be a fact.

Tax-chick, I sympathize. I unintentionally got myself embroiled in one of the Laci Peterson threads.
I understand that many people don't want to be around smoke, and that's fine. They should have places to go in which smoking is not welcome. The free market will provide such places, in the appropriate numbers, without the loss of private property rights and individual liberties.
Those things are just too important to this country to let fall by the wayside because zealots like those you see here want zero tolerance.

There is, however, something odd about taking an assumption and proclaiming it to be a fact. Based on how this thread has progressed, I think many FReepers believe secondhand smoke has affected their families.
But, that's not the same as scientific proof. So okay, "don't believe me." ???Como se dice, que va?
To: Max McGarrity
Max, I agree with you 100%!

I have a great grandmother whose name is on the Dawes list.
I travel occasionally to Tulsa, Pryor, and Muscogee. You could do a lot worse.

He claims that second-hand smoke is harmless as though that claim means anything, but it's a meaningless claim unless he has some kind of background that would give him credibility. I don't like people spouting off claims when they clearly don't have research to back them up, because it weakens any cause. I already stated that I take the "if you don't like the smoke don't patronize the restraunt" attitude, so back off.
What crawled up your butt and died?
