Not to be a smartarse...and staying with the topic of the thread...
I seem to remember an episode (I believe it was a 2-parter) of Little House where the family moved to the city for a bit, and Albert got hooked into a street gang and developed an addiction to morphine. Things were not "utopia" back then either. But I do admit, the work ethic, the general environment, and societal morality of that day made it easier for families to flourish. Nevertheless, there is nothing new under the sun.
I am wondering how many of you actully have a child who suffers with depression. It is very easy to sit in judgement and make generalizations when you don't live it. I guess I am one of the "lazy parents" who don't give my child enough love. I have watched my child struggle for 2 years with school, friends, family and his own mind and it hasn't been easy. My "lazy", unloving husband and I have been in family therapy, my son is in therapy, and we have seen several doctors, and tried all kinds of alternatives. We have prayed about it, we have waited, we have done everything we can. The bottom line...our beautiful 8 year old boy says he wishes he was never born, that he has something wrong in his brain, that he knows he is different than all the other kids. So, shoot me, I am going to try medication. I am struggling with it, believe me. But I love him too much to watch him suffer any more.
