Regardless of the circumstances, a chance to dump Lott was too good to pass up. NOW, we need to go on the offense against the left, and especially on race issues. (Should be easy since they are racists and we are not) No game is ever won soley by defense. (With apologies to the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl Team)

Not meaning to mince words with you Luis. Many liberal Democrats refuse to label themselves as liberal. But I remain unconvinced that all Republicans are or either view themselves as "conservative". There is a whole wing (Rockerfeller) in the NE that whether they say the words or not, are liberal Republicans. We can all call ourselves what we like but actions are much louder than words.
You are right about all the "conservatives" here on FreeRepublic these days, but most are really moderate when it comes to political expediency.
I will agree that most on FR believe they are and indeed are in the main "superpatriots". It is the one thing that brought me to the forum and has kept me here through all the changes that have occurred over the past 5 years here.
Happy New Year and God Bless America!

"I wanna tell you, ladies and gentlemen, that there's not enough troops in the army to force the southern people to admit the nigger race into our theatres into our swimming pools into our homes and into our churches."---Strom Thurmond, presidential candidate, 1948
Robert Byrd, Democrat Senator, 2001.

How so "T"?
Thurmond ran as a segregationist, did he not?
No he didn't

"Where were all the "conservatives" calling for his ousting before now?" Many of "us" called for it starting four years ago, but most of us way out here in the bleacher seats don't have much say in inter-party decisions. Some of us (self included) decided that since the inept leadership wasn't leaving, we would.
I for one am really glad to see Lott eviscerated over this issue. He really lent definition to the expression generated 4 years ago to "Trent Caves-a-Lott". One of the sorriest Republican "leaders" to come down the pike and has done nothing to enhance the party, more so to work towards its' demise.
Like I said when you first posted this thread. This would be fun. And it was, except for the forays into "thread policing" by some of the legends in their own minds.

I don't know anyone from New England (thank God for little miracles I guess), but what we call someone else has little to do with how they think of themselves.
Happy New Year to you and yours!
And may He continue to shower His blessings on the Republic.
To: Luis Gonzalez
And Trent says that Mississippi voted for him, did he not?
from what I read he won four states and 39 electoral votes

"No he didn't."You are out of your friggin' mind "T"! Look at the Party platform.
You can squeeze your eyes shut all you want, but the lights are still on out here.
To: TLBSHOW
Did you rread the Dixiecrat Platform? They were against repeals of segregation laws, against repeals of anti-interracial marriage laws. Great party. Want to tell you who you can marry.
To: TLBSHOW
And?
To: Luis Gonzalez
Then he suggests that if the country had followed Mississippi's lead, and voted for Trent Lott (the segregationist candidate), the country wouldn't have had "all these problems (assumably problems caused by desegregation) over all these years.
You sure assume a Lott lately........

The cowards are the weak GOP voters who would support Lott over the party when Lott fell on his own sword and deserved to be replaced. He energized the Dems when they were in disarray. Regardless of how good or bad Frist performs, Lott had to step down. Well said and worth repeating.

You can attack me all you want, but you have yet to challenge my interpretation of the statement.
Will you be calling me a racist, or start talking about Mexicans sometime soon?
To: Luis Gonzalez
I had Mexican food for lunch. Just so you know.

From what I have read he ran as the States Rights Democratic candidate..."
Sure "T"...and it was all about sex, wasn't it?
To: Republic of Texas
I'm glad you're in Texas right now.
:-)
To: Luis Gonzalez
Its a big deal because Storm even campaigned for the votes of men who fought in the Civil War.

NICK DANGER WROTE IN #51: "It is not reasonable to think that we can advocate truly color-blind policies in this area while keeping in leadership positions guys who make jocular comments about a Strom Thurmond presidency. If we are ever going to sell color-blind policies as a better alternative than these race-based preferences, we just cannot have that around."
NICK DANGER ADDED: "I am tired of watching bipeds crawl out of the forest to tell me that dumping Lott was an act of cowardice. Never mind what the Democrats said, what is our policy on racism? What do we stand for? It sure as Hell isn't to return to segregation and Jim Crow, and if Lott has any doubts about that, then I don't care which Democrats are after him... I'm after him, too. I don't want him stinking up my house."
Your whole post was RIGHT ON, especially the above 2 paragraphs.
To: Luis Gonzalez
"And may He continue to shower His blessings on the Republic." Total agreement.
