We shared one grape soda with four friends, from one bottle and no one died from this. Yep, and it was a glass bottle too. Hell, we could have cut ourselves and bled to death.

My daddy would sometimes even let me sit on his lap so I could pretent I was driving the car. You would get locked up now if you tried something like that.

This is a great post. Thanks.
BTW, I remember a couple of times when kids got hurt on our property badly enough for a doctor visit. Both times, my Dad took the kid to the doctor/hospital and paid the bill himself. This spoke volumes about taking responsibility.

You wuz lucky, that's all. Those of us who haven't survived drinking seltzer water from bottles which didn't have ingredient labels stating 0% for every ingredient as they do now, will tell you so!

(Not to mention hitchhiking to town with strangers, as a young kid!)Gosh, I hope my son never finds out I did stupid stuff like that. Mothers are supposed to have more brains than that. Sometimes it really is a wonder I lived to grow up.

I was caught driving a load of cattle to the auction by the local sheriff when I was 14 and could barely see over the dashboard of his old pickup. The Sheriff told me to wait until his patrol car was out of my sight, then count to 1000 before I continued on my way to town. I had explained my uncle had the flu and was real sick so I had to bring these cattle in for the sale because the prices were going strong that week. The Sheriff later told me that if anyone asked he was going to say that he told me to wait while he went out to the ranch and checked on my uncle. That way he was doing his duty. LOL
I sure don't think that could happen today.

" I remember a couple of times when kids got hurt on our property badly enough for a doctor visit."
Nowdays, someone at the hospital would send a report to the Children & Youth County social services.
