Conversely, if your one-note issue isn't addressed here, please give it a rest for a while. There's 8 years of Clinton, and God knows how many years of liberalism to fix.
P.S. ..a fellow FReeper recommended I formalize these random thoughts from a previous thread. So FWIW.
T-Lo. LOL!
They said they were playing "a hunch." No joke.
As a pro-lifer, I nevertheless could see that pro-life lunacy was killing the party and any hope of saving innocent lives. Now, the anti-immgrant voices are nearing the same level of hysteria. It is both counterproductive and poorly focused, because despite protests that there is nothing "racial" about it, it is an issue drenched in race. Sad. Until the anti-immigrant groups can effectively separate LEGAL (which very few support) from ILLEGAL immigration (which none of us on FR support), it is a loser issue.
Seriously. You're most welcome. Very kind of you to say.
"It is becoming clear that 'W' and Karl Rove saw the big picture when they assessed all that's wrong and needed fixing from a conservative perspective. Many of these policies/decisions haven't received much attention. And not all are in the 'completed' column."
1. Forget Change Tone, Just having someone new in the White House would have changed that. Until the Rats come around and start changing their behavior, all we have here is Bush turning the other cheek every time the rats slap him politically.
2. Judical System? Hasn't happened yet! Not Bush's Fault, and I'm certain that most of his judges will be good ones. But it hasn't happened yet.
3. Reorganized bureaucracy? The Jury's still out on that one. Let's see if it leads to a smaller more efficient gov't or just adds more layers of bureaucracy.
4. Fix budgeting procedures: The House did this, not Bush. Bush had been going along with budget increases (remember the farm bill) in the hopes that it would help them regain control of the senate.
5. A litmus test for foreign aid: not sure what you are referring to?
6. Taxes, I partly agree. Bush cut taxes for the upper income brackets, who are grossly overtaxed. So he deserves credit for that, but it was a small cut spread out over many years. This is not that big, and like with Reagan spending has not been cut.
7. Social security: When it happens it will be a huge victory, but it hasn't happened yet.
8.Challenged 'irrelevant' United Nations: Bush has effectively used and worked with the UN. (And he does deserve credit for that!) He has provided them with "relevance", in regards to our upcoming war.
9.Racism: ???? This is hardly a great victory, and the rats will run on racism in 04.
10. Improving govt efficiency: You are referring to privatizing some gov't functions, good idea - let's see if it happens, and results in smaller gov't.
11. Outsmarting the Democrats: Is it because we're so smart, or they're so lame?
12.Education: Bush lost that battle! Remember the voucher got taken OUT of the ed bill.
Sorry to disagree, I do like Bush. Here is my List.
1. SDI: Bush has provided very strong leadership in this area. We will have missile defense, and Bush deserves a great deal of credit for that.
2. War on Terror: Again Bush has done a great job, emerged as a true world leader. We've freed one nation from an evil dictatorship, and will soon free a second.
3. Foreign Policy: Once again we have a President who puts America's interests first. Remember the Koyoto Treaty? The Anti missile defense treaty with the soviets? Bush is more supportive of Israel, Taiwan, Turkey. Bush is developing a good relationship with Putin - which may lead to a strong future alliance with Russia.
4. Taxes: We did get a small tax cut. And it did include all the people, not just the "working families".
5. Right to Life: Bush has reenacted the Mexico City Policy, and has been quietly working to defund the pro-aborts(i.e. un, sex-ed, etc).
6. Moral Leadership (I think that this what you meant by your #1) Bush is cautious and moves slowly, but he says what he means. He calls evil evil.
I do think that in two years my list will be longer. Like Social Security Reform, Immigration Reform, Some sort of Voucher program.
The reast of your list is OK, but I have yet to see the Bush Administration take even one productive step on the issue of Illegal Aliens. In their stumbles, however, they've been needlessly antagonistic to many in the GOP.
A LIST OF THIS ADMINISTRATION'S ACCOMPLISHMENTS
PRES. BUSH'S SCORECARD, GOALS, & AGENDA
This is an attempt to keep a thread going of just what HAS been accomplished--in face of all that we hear that has NOT been accomplished (yet).
Add those items you think have NOT been included--but should be.
