What the hell kind of answer is that? I'm older than you are.

And I know that Trent Lott is NOT thinking about us OR the Bush White House agenda.

He's thinking about himself and keeping power, no matter WHAT it does to this party.

If he stays, it's going to cost us the 2004 elections.

It would have been nice but it is now impossible.

Is it now impossible because of the precedent set by Lott's groveling and pandering?

That's why I said (repeating MYSELF for about the eighth time--I'm starting to feel like Lott) that NOW he has to go because he has become a danger to the mission.

But had we done what you're supposed to do in supporting a team member, it would NEVER have come to this.

We have shot ourselves in the foot.

" Taking names " ? Whatever are you talking about ? Any stab at reading my mind / assuming that I meant something, other than I said outright , is exactly what was done to Lott and the entire GOP.

You are emotinally replying to what you imagine you see in my post. It's sad to know just how far you will go, when someone doesn't agree with your hysterics. Your disjointed , delusional reply, is more than disquieting. When did you become a mind reader, old friend ?:-(

For the most part his party supported him until he deserted them last night

You can't be serious. I also gave up on him last night but not because of the BET interview, there was NOTHING left for him to say and now if he stays he will have to follow through. There are many senators that are probably asking themselves right now if Bush will stand up for them when their turn comes and do they want to be the next one to find out.

You don't know anything about me or what I know and understand. Like Gore, you come across as superior acting, considering anyone who disagrees with you as a peasant.

If Lott and other Republicans had stood up from the beginning and told people upset about his Thurmond tribute to shove it, none of this witch hunting would have happened.

Almost, but not quite. What they should have done is scheduled a press conference, with all the Senate leadership standing there, looking on, and had Mr. Lott say "I am a jackass. I should NEVER have said what I said, I apologize from the bottom of my heart, and I'll never do it again."

From then on, Mr. Lott should never have had to say another word. The other Senators would have volunteered face-time, and said "Mr. Lott apologized. Can't we just move on?"

Repeated ad nauseum the issue would have gone away.

But no. Because not many conservatives understand the concept of "team" we don't have that privilege any more. Now we have to deal with a much more dangerous reality.

No it is the precedent set by branding a man a racist based on reading his mind and a party that goes along with it.

" He's now dangerous to keep around, because he's been 'turned'...Had we closed ranks around him, told the world "Mr. Lott has been a bad boy, he is sorry, and he's never going to do it again. Now buzz off," it would never have come to this."

Sad but true. Now the man has turned to the left of Maxine Waters...

We ought to start a 'Lott Apology' pool. I'm going with 9 apologies. You in??

When Nickles starts proving you wrong, I'll be sure and remind you.

I have no doubt you will...but don't hold your breath. Don Nickles has a brain and a pair.

You do NOT understand politics or politicians, apparently.

Patronizing bilge. I've known a large number of politicians from the precinct to the national level...and they are no different than anybody else.

Nobody is "supposed to" support a team member who is sabotaging the team's efforts to stay in the game and win.

Lott's done, you DO understand that, don't you? We're not going to have him to kick around any more. As Texasforever stated, you all "won."

Now the only question is if they can come up with some face-saving way for him to remain in the Senate. I have grave doubts about that. I think he'll probably have to step down, and I think Mike Espy will be appointed to his position.

Oh, and because we've already shown the world that we know there is "racism" contaminating our ranks, we'd better not say anything about Mike Espy, or we're racists just like we said we were (by our tacit admission).

In fact, better not run a strong candidate against Espy in the special election, you hear?

Oh, and Mr. Chaffee and Ms. Snow have a few things to say here. We'd better dump some of the Bush agenda, it's just not going to fly with their constituents.

So, goodbye tax cuts, and goodbye partial birth abortion ban.

Oh, and "hello" to more affirmative action, and goodbye to the support of the Justice Department for reverse-discrimination litigation.

Can't have that, we've got to behave since we've shown the world what "racists" we all are.

You people amaze me, as narrow-minded and short-sighted as you are. If we were a football team, we'd be the Cincinnati Bengals.

Did you have some trouble reading my question to you? It looked pretty plain to me.

You're the one talking about having your "eyes opened," not me.

As to how far I'll go, you can bet I'll say what I believe when it's bad for this party.

Only for the next poor slob that is brought down by the "Lott definition of Racism". When reading minds becomes the litmus test for racist then every republican to the right of Snowe is in for a rough ride.

They want us to keep a quarterback with a broken back in the game, because they don't want the other team to get the satisfaction of having knocked him out of the game.

Lott should look after his interests and no one else's.Those who kept pushing and pushing and piling on can't expect a cornered man to do what they want.Nickles open declaration was high folly, but he was onll following the self promoting DC pundit windbag class who never get in the arena but love to throw their peanut shells. It's all so easy for them to scoff at lott's performance, yet, have they ever been accused of such a thing?

Where has your sense of decency gone that you want to rub Lott's nose in it day after day and complain about what he has done to YOU? A man has been humiliated and destroyed, and you demand he NOT look out for number 1? You have some gall, lady.

And you can thank Trent Lott for every single bit of that. I didn't do it. Neither did anybody else on this thread that believes he's a liability to us now.

What's the difference in having another dem senator and having a Rep ML who advances the opposing party's agenda rather than his own?

No, it is the precedent set by branding a man a racist based on reading his mind and a party that goes along with it.

I think it's probably both. Lott's shameful pandering convinced the racial demagogues that they have much more power than they realized. If you exclusively blame "the party that goes along with it," then the buck stops with the party leader, President Bush. He is, after all, the one who sets the tone. Are you willing to place the blame there?
