but the book does provide interesting background on the degas family. they were anti-semites without doubt--witness the dreyfus affair later on.
the fact of the matter is, degas' relatives were involved in forming a white militia, and the purpose was to prevent racial integration.
reading a review is not the same thing as reading the book. it's a fast read.
But that's more an aspect of the negative characteristics of human society. It is totally unrelated to the concept of "militia".
As stated before, "militia" is merely a form of community self-defense.
and that's what the mussons and degas did; they used their money and power to prevent the so-called coloreds from integrating into new orleans society.
if that's ok by you, fine.
but, i'm NOT joining any militia, thanks! and i have no problems with skin color.
So they were racists and bigots and anti-semites and formed a "white" militia.
So what? What's your point?
Do you think eliminating their First and Second Amendment rights would have somehow magicly turned them into multi-cultural humanitarians?
i'm going to bed.
bye. happy klan meeting!
Well, you're already part of one anyway, informally at least, whether you know it or not.
I suppose there will always be some people who insist on living like hermits, and want absolutely no association or obligation to the community. But in times of crisis, the vast majority of people turn out to do whatever they can. And at the most fundamental level, that's all a militia is.
LOL!
So that's what this discussion was about?
A pathetic troll to equate militias and the racist klan?
We the People must be disarmed and subjected to an authoritarian Police State to impose involuntary equality?
Good grief, you're really an emotionally disturbed individual, aren't you?
But apparently the country of Mexico does, what with it's population being 92% Latino. Now, what percentage of the United States' population is white? A lot less than 92%, that's for sure.
