So why are these girly boys, as Ann Coulter once called them, acting as if Trent Lott burned a cross on Colin Powells lawn? Most of them have ulterior motives. Andrew Sullivan, for instance, wants to prove his social liberalism to moderate readers. Opposing the right-winger from the Deep South is a natural way to achieve that goal. Plus, he is no doubt still harboring anger over Lotts infamous comments from a few years back, when he compared homosexuality to kleptomania and alcoholism.

If you say something that you have to apologize later for, that is not a person that I want as Senate Majority Leader. The stakes are too high.

You don't join the likes of jesse jackson! Stakes are too high.BS!!! Just because Jesse Jackson has to get in his face time in the media spouting off about it doesn't mean that what Lott said wasn't totally asinine. I am sure there are many other qualified GOP senators who as ML who would have had the better judgement than to say a stupid remark like Lott did. The bottom line is that Trent Lott is not qualified to be ML, end of story.

I believe Trent Lott can support segregation if that's his perogative. I think he said what all of us in here are afraid to say because we don't want to be "insensitive." Oh, I'd never call you insensitive. I'd call you a bigot.
Lott must go. Perhaps you can join him.

We should no longer let the term "racist" frighten us, and make this a party of the true, patriotic American.
That is what Jesse Lee peterson said in the White Fear story! Here

"I believe Trent Lott can support segregation if that's his perogative. I think he said what all of us in here are afraid to say because we don't want to be "insensitive."
And this is what Thurmond said in a nationwide radio address on the eve of the election:
"Don't forget the so-called civil rights program would bring about the end of segregation in the South, forcing mixing of the races in our hotels, in our restaurants, in our schools, in our swimming pools and in all public places. This change in our customs is not desired by either the white or the colored race."
I am thinking this stretches insensitivity to the limits.

As soon as Lott is strung up and drying in the wind, the question becomes: "What evil so pervades the Republican Party, that they would elect so satanic a person to lead them?"

Good article. If the left prevails against Lott, it will only embolden them. They want Lott out of the Senate so the Democrap guv of Miss can appoint a Dem and take away the Republican victory. I dislike Lott for his lack of leadership, but I refuse to join the jackal packs who run with the extreme left and their hypocrites on this issue. IMO, this whole exercise hurts the Dems in the south (with the whites) and will be a plus for the Republicans if they play their cards right. If they cave to the left, it will turn off a lot of white southern voters who see this as an injustice to Lott.
