You are completely correct, TLBSHOW. The only reason this has become an issue is because Republicans have let it become one without fighting back. Enough is enough.

It isn't Trent Lott who needs a spine.

It's the entire Republican party!

that is your opinion - or should I say your speculation!

seriously - Lott has done NOTHING WRONG!

His voting record indicates nothing even remotely associated with all that sh*t the dems are saying...

and he shouldn't pander to these mealy mouthed liberals who suggest that he should resign!

I say damn the torpedos and fight the bast*rds tooth and nail - do what is right and what is true and you shall not go wrong!

stand tall and look em in the eye and tell em to go to h*ll!

if he does this Lott will be a hero!

OK .. I have thought a bit more about this and I don't have all the answers but I just know I am sick and tired of this race issue and I am tired of the left attacking us on this issue .. in this day and age, race should not be a huge problem but yet it is ..

Regardless of our color or whether we are in the upper or lower class income level .. We are first and fore most Americans that have love for our God, our Country and our Family

I'm from Philly .. I grew up with and around folks of all colors .. all income levels and all religious backgrounds .. my mother brought me up to not judge a person for their color, race or creed .. but to look at who they are as a person and what was in their hearts

However, with that all said .. I do not deny there is still a huge gap and a huge problem in the way the black community is treated. There are way to many times they are treated extremely bad

But I don't think this problem can be solved as long as there are people out there that keeps pitting one race against the other and one income level against the other ..

Martin Luther King at the end of his I Have A Dream speech said

"And when this happens, and when we allow freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!"

I want to see that happen in my life time .. and I want all the fighting and attacks to stop ..

I was never a fan of Lott's leadership. I wished he had either stepped aside long ago or not forced the vote back in November. I do not think he has to leave the Senate.

I also don't think this will play as big of an issue in 2004 as scaremongerers here are trying to make us believe it will.

No, I prefer to discuss both, and now. Your time table aside, both are relevant.

Boy, you're fluttering all over this website trying to get people to join your stampede. Have you mentioned yet that the Reagan administration joined this case and supported Jones' position -- that position being the unconstitutionality of the IRS making decisions in possible violation of the 1st amendment? Why do you, like the libs, insist on presenting only partial information?

Why should Lott remain as Leader?

Simple question, simple answer LN.

If Trent Lott steps down now, he validates the accusation of racist and segregationist in the year 2002.

No man should be asked to do that if he is not guilty of that which he is accused.

I see only two principled positions here in light of the fact that segregation and racism are immoral. The first is that Lott is guilty of those accusations in which case I would prefer he resign from the party and the senate.

The second is that he does not harbor those positions and therefore should not resign from anything.

I'll answer any question you ask LN and though I eat a lot of chicken because my wife is worried about my coronary arteries, I have never backed down from any man, asskicking or not.

Lott is going to grease the wheels for Bush's policy agenda in January.

This is why enemies of conservatism are out to get him.

We are about to make great strides in 2003.

Good point. The decisive statement by Lott summed it up. (Paraphrased)

"Should I resign because someone said that I am something that I am not?"

Lott should resign as Majority Leader because he is a bigot and he knows he is. He just forgot to close his mouth when his brain was talking.

How many extraordinary at-least-former segregationist attorneys in Mississippi who grew up during the Jim Crow era don't know what the Dixiecrat Party stood for? None. You know that's the answer to that question. Lott has probably said what he said the other night many times in private.

Let's put this into perspective-- TrLott was 8 years old when Strom Thurmond ran for President in '48, and about 21 during the beginning of the Civil Rights Era. It was like the civil violation of Clinton/ Reno troops that took Elian, burned down Wacko, and took Ruby Ridge-- likely was as threatening as forced integration to Southerners. It must be a nightmare to watch the Feds take over and change/control your life.

Your colors are obvious. You hate Bush. Everyone who supports the president is a "bushbot." Immigration is the only thing in the world. I think that pretty well exposes you.

As I've said many times on this issue, my only concern with removing Lott as MAJORITY leader is, "Should we do the right thing for the wrong reason?" If we give in, it will not solve anything in terms of the "ammunition" issue. But it would solve a big problem in terms of having a "nut-cruncher" as Maj. Leader.

Is the one worth the other? I'm torn. One day I say yes, the other I say no. EVERYONE must know that removing Lott would NOT in any way silence the left, who would think they have an "issue" here. But, on the other hand, it turns out removing Gingrich was a pretty good deal. It took away a demon and left us with a very quiet, but quietly effective, Speaker of the House.

Nope, I think he's a very affable man. Dumb and misguided, but affable.
I wouldn't mind having him as a neighbor at a backyard barbeque
He'd probably make a great Little League coach as well.

Everyone who supports the president is a "bushbot."

Only those mindless drones who do so without questioning his position on issues.

Immigration is the only thing in the world.

Nope, there are many other issues:

Those are just a few.

I think that pretty well exposes you.

No, you've merely exposed yourself as a mindless bushbot.

Look, I am not saying that the case had no merit, or whether Lott was on the right side of the issue. Nor am I asserting that Lott was necessarily "racist" in what he said.

All I'm saying is that Trent Lott has a bad habit of creating horrible sound bites, which will be used (undoubtedly) to bludgeon Republicans indefinitely.

The only point I am trying to make in posting Lott's past statements is this: this is the ammo that he has provided. Do we really want to get bogged down in the quagmire of explaining Lott's words, right or wrong, and fighting the uphill battle of convincing everyone he's not a racist? That "some of his best friends are black" and he's "just the pore ol' son of a sharecropper?"

I think Lott has done a lot of harm to our party in many ways in the past. He's an albatross that we don't need.

I was heartened by Don Nickles announcing a challenge to Lott's leadership over the weekend. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Lott's stepping aside is going to be near the broadside to the Republicans as some think. I think it will be relatively painless and necessary.

But as the Beatles sang, "Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong."

The Liberals would hate Don Nickles.

Whether he is to take Lott's place or not...Nickles would be the antithesis of Lott. Nickles is a "real" Christian who I havent seen compromise his position as a Brother once.

I would be much more comfortable with a guy like him facing up on the Dems than Lott.

No...

This is about cleaning our house. I dont care what Liberals are or arent saying. Trnet Lott is an incompetent boob. Last night he went on BET and said he supports affirmative action. He will cave on every single issue now...that relates to race.

This is the guy you guys want running the senate?

C'mon give me a break. Stop pointing the finger at what Liberals are or arent doing.

Lott has to go.

And Sean Hannity is on his moral eqivalence chatter again this evening. Simply rediculous.
