You know, every time I have a chance to talk to a black person about the Republican Party, I do my best to let them know that the party wants to include everyone, not just rich white people. It does wonders for my street cred...[rolling eyes]
Just watch though, the spin masters are gearing up...

I suppose the Senators could, but why would they?Because they want a guy as majority leader with an IQ greater than his shoe size, perchance?

Black conservative pingIf you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)
Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

Just more proof Lott is an idiot that needs to go. I would give him a pass on this gaff if he did the right thing and told his detractors to shut up and stop making a mountain out an dumb statement that could mean only about a thousand different things.
He won't, he will stick his tail between his legs and snivel something about him being sorry for being stupid.

Byrd is the Democrats' problem. Lott is our problem. The Byrd issue is a non-sequitor.
Gregg for Majority Leader.
To: Malesherbes; hchutch
I'm not fan of Lott, but trying to make an issue out of this is absurd. It may be absurd to do it, but it will be done--and done effectively, at that.
Trent's proven himself to be way too stupid to be Majority Leader.

This is simply a tempest in a teacup
I'll bet you a quarter this turns into a hurricane that sweeps Lott out of the Leader's seat.
To: Poohbah
Trent Lott has singlehandedly set the party back another 200 years. The dumbest statement of the day, so far.

Wasn't mine.
But Lott has managed to make us look like dunderheads, at the very least.

Everyone holds Republicans to a higher standardWell, we here certainly should.
To: mhking
I've had the point of carefully choosing my words drubbed in my head. I bet you can guess who did it in one try. This proves it.
To: ewing
Oh, this is silly. But then, the Dems have been trying tactics that are sillier every day, so who knows. They are desparate.

Any excuse to toss Trent Lott out on his ear gets my support.

It is an overstatement, but certainly not dumb. This has hurt the republican cause. I guarrantee it.

Lott was lulled into the trap of thinking a birthday celebration would not be used for political advantage against the GOPWas Chester unaware that this was going to be broadcast on CSpan? If he was oblivious to the cameras or didn't notice them or didn't know this was going to be broadcast by CSpan, he is dumber than he looks.
He's a powerful politician, one who's the Majority Leader of the Senate. He should've been aware of what he says, not just in private, but on a nationally-broadcast program, and how his words are already being used as a weapon by the Dems. He gave them the ammo and it's his own damn fault.

This is simply a tempest in a teacup "Mr. President, do you agree with your party's leader in the Senate that Strom Thurmond should have been elected President in 1948?"
"Lott has decided to step down as Majority Leader and I have no comment on his dumb-ass remark."
To: GraniteStateConservative
lott is a problem but not because the press has decided to twist a silly birthday speech.he's a problem because he's spineless.

I don't read into Lott's remarks anything like what he is surmising in this article.
Wouldn't be too bad if Lott resigned, though.
